Perfect prep excess when feeding newborn

I’m due in January and trying to prepare for both breast and formula feeding - haven’t fully committed either way yet.

I have 1 fully inverted nipple and have been advised to try nipple shields, to use on both sides, which I have bought ready to try, but not feeling confident this will work for me. So I also plan to buy a perfect prep machine on Vinted, and get new filters etc as a fallback plan.

Reading up on formula feeding I’ve seen that newborns only need around 1-2oz at the start, but the perfect prep machine makes minimum of 4.

Is it safest to throw the excess away each time? Or can I split it into two bottles and keep the excess for later that night? If I say, store it in the fridge and heat it up under hot water later?

Just looking for some rough advice to get me prepared. Thanks!

Initially I would just get prepaid formula milk bottles. It's more expensive but you don't have to worry about the issues with sterilisation and mould in tubes that come with the perfect prep machine, or the amount drunk.

Yeah, if you're not sure about formula, you can buy six packs of whatever brand is well-stocked at your nearest supermarket. They often come in small volumes with pre-sterilised teats. We used them to top up after breastfeeds. If you find you get on with breastfeeding, you won't need a Perfect Prep (or won't need one for months).
