night feeds at 9 months

My ds is currently having 2 bf nightfeeds at nine months - they are regular times (his wake ups not mine) and he stirs at other times too so I'm not just feeding him because he's awake. I was fine with this as he seems to be leading everything pretty well! But my MIL said he 'shouldn't' be feeding twice a night, and I know she thinks not at all at night. She raised hers on formula and also doesn't seem to be able to remember ANYTHING to offer constructive advice so I just wanted to know what others do/think?

It's entirely up to you. it is normal for some babies to require a night feed at this age. If you are happy with the situation, then I wouldn't bother trying to change it.

And a hint regarding your MIL: LIE. Tell her your baby sleeps through every night and hoepfully she'll shut up.

Hmm this would be a lot easier but she's our only babysitter so far and may spot the lie! (stays over, small house) He is HUGE for his age too, i don't know if this makes a difference. Height wise I should say, not obesely!

My dd fed twice a night at 9 months, once a night now she's 11 months.

Don't worry and next time she has a cup of tea tell her she shouldn't and take it off her. I cannot for the life of me understand a basic human need like thirst being denied because of where the little hand is on the clock.

LOL! I can just see her face!

Ooh, Boots had a promotion on one of the 'follow-on' formulas complete with leaflets. It was supposed to help sleep.

The leaflet said, 'by 6 months your baby should be sleeping through the night.'

Presenting this as normal to convince people that babies who don't sleep through need their magical sleep formula.

Rant over

Ignore her. It's not unusual at all. If you and your DS are happy, what's the problem?

The most useful piece of information I ever read regarding parenting was that your baby will learn to sleep through the night anytime between 6 weeks and 6 years! I was shocked when I read it, but now I realise how true that is.

My DS is 9 months and still has between 2 and 5 feeds a night.

thanks everyone, i feel truly vindicated! she will have to wait until he is an insomniac demanding 14 year old to get hers!!
