Electric Breast Pump

Hi!
We're expecting our first child in January, and are planning on breast feeding.
I will be returning to work after 3 months (2/3 days at home, other days in the office), and our son will be attending nursery on the days I am in the office.
I plan on expressing, so that our son will still be having breast milk, regardless of who is feeding.

Anybody have any advice and recommendations for electric breast pumps?

Depends on your budget, but I use the pippeta and really rate it

I brought the Elvie, thinking it was expensive and so must be good. But it really didn't work for me. I think it must be dependent on shape/size. So I wouldn't say go for the most expensive.

I think the points raised by both pp are right. It will depend on your budget and not everyone gets on with the same type of pump.

After trying several types and panicking that I wasn't "yielding" enough I hired a hospital grade Medala (sp) pump that would have cost a fortune to buy (please research the company if you decide to hire, for many reasons)

One final point I think is important is please don't panic if you don't get much out of any type of pump. I was thrown into panic when the first ones I tried weren't producing much but my baby seemed to extract plenty, remember babies are much better at extracting milk than any pump, I know you need to express for work but didn't want you to think you weren't producing enough if your body doesn't like the pump (you'll probably be fine though). Hope the rest of your pregnancy is an enjoyable one (as much as it can be!)

Thanks all! I'd looked at the Pipetta and Elvie, but the price of the Elvie definitely put me off 😅 I don't really know anybody who has expressed, most people I know used formula.
People have been saying to wait until closer to the time to get a pump, but I'm hoping to get one during the November deals 😂

I've definitely enjoyed the perks of being pregnant, like getting to park closer to the office 😂

I have the Elvie but I don't rate it, I seem to get more from my Medela hand pump. Obviously a hand pump will not work for you, it's for occasional use only.

Look up some US sites, women there are a lot more used to pumping.

Make sure your partner does the sterilising and cleaning. Pumping is an incredible amount of work, no comparison to breastfeeding or formula feeding. It's literally the worst of both put together.
