Help!

FTM to 4 week old who I think is suffering from reflux.

She is very unsettled, has been since birth. Spent some time in NICU after birth due to feeding issues and vomiting.

Since being home she was taking 3oz 2 - 3 hourly. Symptoms were arching of back, does not like to be lay flat, seems to struggle with bottle, hungry but visibly struggling when taking formula like she's in pain. Hiccups after feeding, after feeding gags and doing plenty of swallowing like she has a bad taste in mouth. Possits after feeding.

Spoke to HV who suggested GP for reflux or CMPA. GP believed it wasn't CMPA and more likely reflux. Prescribed infant gaviscon but said to reduce feeds before using to see if it makes a difference. He suggested 2oz every 3 hours. She will not wait 3 hours so been having 2oz every 2 hours. Which seemed to help for a day or so. GP said only to use gaviscon if nessasary as it can cause constipation in babies.

Last night she was waking every hour (not to be fed) but because she seemed in pain and was screaming. She possited after each feed. She is well winded, I elevate her whilst feeding and pace her when she allows. Keep her elevated for at least 30 mins after each feed.

I'm at my wits end what to do, I'm scared of trying the gaviscon in case it causes other issues but obviously don't like seeing her in pain. I also have gripe water but haven't used this yet as I don't know whether that would cause issues with reflux like infacol does.

Any advice? TIA

Yep sounds like reflux which may or may not be linked to cmpa.
Ask about omperazole and ask to trial formula just in case

My daughter got constipated on gaviscon. I had her on and off it for months before accepting lactulose, a mild stool softener, alongside it. I wish I had asked much sooner.

My daughter has reflux and food allergies. She needed the combination of gaviscon and omperazole with my removing her allergens from my diet to improve.

We only used gripe water twice as bad had projectile vomiting both times!

Sounds like my baby. GP also said CMPA is very rare and not to bother excluding dairy and soy. I did and it's made an enormous difference. Totally different baby.

You basically can't eat out much. Well, you can, but it's frustrating and risky. Every vegan restaurant uses soy in everything so don't even go there. Also, every spread and every jar of every sauce out there has dairy protein or soy. Evem coffee is sometimes roasted in soy (although I don't know how much gets into the coffee). So get cooking. It took about a week for us to see a difference. Try it and in a couple of weeks you'll know.
