Aptamil reflux milk - how do you make yours?

I’m curious as to how everybody makes this formula up??

The back of the formula advises to let the water cool down for 45 minutes before making the bottle which I assumed would be unsafe as I thought it needed to be 70 degrees or above to kill the bacteria in the formula??

Anyways I’ve been making the bottles with the 70 degrees water and letting it cool down but I’ve noticed the bottles are really runny and my baby spits up so I decided to speak to aptamil themselves, see photos attached for what they said.

Now I’m really not sure what to do? It feels really wrong for the water to not be at 70 degrees or above?? Has anyone been doing the way it says in the formula and been okay?

Follow the exact manufacturer guidance. Your dr/ dietitian should have warned you that the instructions differ but in these situations you need to follow that not the ate nhs guidance.

Also make sure you don't shake it. Mix with a sterile item or if necessary swirl it. The bubbles will make the reflux worse.

I don't know what to say if you refuse to make the formula exactly as the manufacturer instructions.

It's a trade off between getting the milk thicker or the small chance that the formula is contaminated with bacteria. As long as you make up and use the milk immediately you shouldn't have any issues

It sounds like the milk is made under particularly strict conditions to minimise the risk of contamination (which doesn’t surprise me as it’s effectively a medical product). I would follow the manufacturers instructions.

@SallyForf im definately not refusing to do it that way, im asking for advise because every visit ive had from the health visitor they reiterated the 70 degrees for making formula. So just want everyone’s advice 😊

Hey @Smudglydid you ever find a solution for this? I’ve been googling to same and found this thread so thanks for posting the info as I was wondering this too!

I was thinking to make a flask of the boiled water and make the feed from that if it’s the correct temp
