CMPA formula?

Hello

my 4.5 month old has had worsening reflux and eczema since birth. She doesn’t sleep well due to symptoms and has recently lost some weight. Doctor won’t test for allergies… I have a couple of questions.

If your child has CMPA, how did you get this diagnosed?
We exclusively breastfeed but I am considering combi feeding. Is there a good over the counter allergy formula people recommend? Is it ok to use this even if allergy is not confirmed?

Ivan see in a way why the GP won't test fir allergies as things like CMPA are diagnosed through elimination and don't show up on a test,

Have you read Dairy & other food sensitivities on Kellymom? And are you eating a DF diet?

Well it’s not the doctor who tests for non ige allergies - you exclude from your diet for a few weeks and see if symptoms go - try this for a month. If symptoms go and then they come back when you reintroduce then it’s cmpa and you need to follow dairy free diet. If it gets worse - potentially consider if soy is issue as many are allergic to both and it’s common replacement. Yes there are dairy free formulas but they taste and smell horrific and very few babies will accept them unless taking since birth so just be mindful that it might not be easy switch.

if it’s a ige allergy there is a skin prick test for it’s not very reliable so often confirmation is when child reacts directly post weaning. You need to avoid dairy in this case too if bf. Good luck!

My baby is breastfed and paediatrician advised it might be CMPA. They can't test for it, you have to eliminate dairy and soy from your diet. It's difficult as even a trace of dairy will set my baby off (i.e. French fries are usually friend in oil that has dairy in it, bread from the supermarket has dairy in it etc).

Once I eliminated dairy and soy, my baby was a lot happier.

However, formula would make things worse as most formula has dairy. The ones that are dairy free, don't taste nice and babies don't love them.

So your best bet is to eliminate dairy and see how you go.

You have to be very strict as it stays in your system for 2 weeks and then in his system for another 2 weeks.
