and deep down I know she's talking bollocks, but she's got me wondering...

DD isn't much interested in solids but doing everything else an 8 month old should be. Sitting, crawling, babbling, teething. She feeds round the clock - doesn't sleep much but never has really.

HV weighed her this morning and she's 17lbs 4oz. She was going on about making her take more solids (er, how?) and supplementing with formula. She reckons either I've not got enough milk or it's not satisfying her anymore.

Reassure me please!

she doesnt need supplementing with formula
but she does need solids at this age
but, if she in on equal centiles for height and weight, has good colour, is active, has good muscle tone etc, then she is probably absolutely fine.

i dont think there is ever a NEED to supplement with formula. a desire perhaps, but never a need

My DS only drank bm until he was 8 months old. Having point blank refused any solids for 2 months, he finally got the hang of it and started to eat like a hoover. Your DD may well go the same way, in which case I woulddn't worry at all about doing anything different. In fact, I wouldn't particularly worry anyway. When I spoke to my HV about my DS refusing solids, she said not to worry as my DS would be absolutely fine on just bm until he was 12 months.

DD2 was born on the 45th centile and dropped to the 9th by the time she was 12 months. There was an awful lot of fuss about sending her for tests because she was slipping down the centiles (she wasn't as heavy as 17lbs 4 oz either ). She is fine, she's a slight build and has lots of energy, like your dd. Same HV tried to get me to stop night feeds at the same time as telling me she was concerned about weight gain.

I really really don't think you need to supplement her with formula - at this stage your milk is unlikey to just dry up, particularly if she feeds round the clock.

Lots of babies still aren't interested in solids at 8 months.

She isn't actually losing weight is she?

And forgot to say....ds was born at 50th percentile, went up to 80 or 90 and then at 8 months or so dropped to around 20th percentile and stayed there until he was 6 (he's now 40th percentile). And although dd was around 50th for weight, she was so long/tall that she was OFF the chart for height, so hv erased the actual point and MADE UP A NEW ONE that fit on the chart, claiming that she must have measured wrong.
However, as I said before, it's much easier to agree with HV and then do what you want, rather than trying to disagree or change HV's mind.
