Milk is causing wind - baby so upset and crying - but feeding is the only way to console him

Help!

For the past two hours, my one month old has been so distressed and crying. We think it’s wind as he’s grunting while pooing, pumping his legs, and is being a bit sick after a feed.

The only thing that consoles him however is - the boob!

But it’s making a vicious cycle.

He desperately needs sleep but is in too much discomfort to do so. What shall we do?

i would get organic peppermint tea bags

boil water, wait until cool and the give in a tiny syringe (few drops) your baby will be windy no more!

polish I think use camomile tea and Indian aniseed I think

Can you give him a little tummy massage, do some bicycle kicks with him and gently rub his stomach, help him get some of the gas out. Then try to rock him to sleep upright

How are things now @RedCedars?

Absolutely do not do this. Breastfed babies shouldn’t be given any tea / liquid.

I didn’t know that but why not? What is going to possibly happen

In my dc it was one of the symptoms of cows milk protein intolerance. They were ill if I had any milk or soya. One of them has entirely grown out of it the other two can have some but tend to have oat milk instead. With a child of that age though I would talk it through with a health visitor. Explain the constant comfort feeding, the good weight gain was a reason it wasn't explored earlier in my eldest.

Lie the baby on your arm face down like a leopard on a branch, stroke back and walk around till it sleeps/burps/farts. Try walking up steps if needed.

going forwards stop mid feed and burp the baby and again at the end.

It could also be normal, OP. My 2.5 month old was doing that a bit. Their digestive systems are new and getting used to having anything pass through. I also wondered with mine if it was the letdown. When they're so small, it might be hard for them to deal with even a normal letdown. Their nervous systems also change at 3 months, and before that, they can be quite reactive to minor things. I think the kicking and screaming makes a bit of a vicious cycle too because they swallow air and then some of it comes out the other end.

I tried feeding mine lying on my side next to him, or reclined with him on top so the milk flow wasn't helped by gravity. I also hold him over the sink at nappy changes in a seated position with his back against my chest and often something comes out.

That's not saying it couldn't be an allergy or so on, just wanted to give another perspective

Infacol. I resisted giving it for ages but it really helped.

Warm bath.

Perservere with winding.
