Grade 4 lip tie and anterior tongue tie - any experience?

Hi all, after a difficult start to feeding I took my 12 day old baby to a lactation consultant yesterday who diagnosed him with a grade 4 lip tie and a severe anterior tongue tie (90% connected). She has recommended we have them both lasered by Dr Levinkind in London. Was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this / the procedure, how it affected feeding, or if anyone could shed any more light on the pros and cons of having it treated (and when). Many thanks!

I can tell you what it's like not having a TT cut as it was found so late. We had years of very little sleep. Could only tolerate really smooth food until around 12 months and had SLT more than once.

Congratulations on your new LO Flowers

There is no evidence for lip tie (as is no definition of what it is, no consistent diagnostic tool and no evidence it causes any difficulties with feeding) and I'd be reluctant to have it divided. The Associarion of tongue tie practitioners strongly recommends against.

I would divide the tongue tie probably with a scissors using practitioner as the research on outcomes with scissors division is strong and there is very little research on laser division although if you prefer laser it is becoming more common. I'd reevaluate the lip tie post tongue tie division as it is likely to be a non problem, the upper lip is used very little in breastfeeding unless it is needed for compensation,
