Has anyone donated milk to a Milk Bank?

I've got a friend in SA who runs a home for abadoned/orphaned babies (some of them 'Aids orphans'). They've recently started receiving donations of breastmilk which they've been giving to some of the babies, and have seen a significant improvement in their health, and increase in their weight!

I'm interested to know whether anyone has donated milk to something like this? I believe milk banks exist in the USA and UK (and I understand that some of them send the milk to 'needy babies' abroad - like my friend's babies), but I've never met anyone who donates to them.

I remember a lady I worked with who had her children in the 1970's here in Ireland saying that a nurse used to come around with a breast pump, calling out, "I'm collecting for the premature babies!" No vetting or blood tests or anything!

I also donated to the Oxford one, maygirl! I used to express'n' freeze and then my wares would be collected by a battleaxe of a midwife who complained about foreigners using the NHS. Did you get her?

In Berkshire hobnob, so had to deliver to local hospital. Don't think they had many drop offs as always seemed surprised and
didn't always know where the special freezer was!
