Help! 3 or 4hrs between feeds at 2months old

Hi my baby is a big baby 16.5lb at 10weeks old. He has been going 3hrs between feeds in the day for a while. I have noticed he is now waking at 7 having his feed then 1hr nap 8. He is then having playtime for 1-1.5hrs and falling asleep for 30mins then feeding at 4hrs. I’m just unsure if all his awake time needs to be together or is this ok to have 1hr nap then 30mins seperately? Any help appreciated as I’m FTM Thankyou

Is he happy, content, gaining weight, sleeping well?
If yes then whatever you're doing is perfect for him.

I would try amd feed him more often during the day to get the calories in him then…hopefully he will then go longer between feeds at night.

if you want, have a look at the contented little baby book by Gina Ford, there are some guidelines in there that can be helpful (but dont treat it as gospel!)

Either is fine so long as weight gain stays on track and baby is happy and healthy! Some people choose to stick to a 3 hourly routine during the day to pack in more daytime feeds in the hope that they’ll need less at night and give you a nice long stretch of sleep overnight. But 4 hourly is fine too, or somewhere in the middle where the gap ranges from 3-4 hours depending on naps etc. It’s really just whatever works best for you and your baby!

It really doesn't matter.

If he is thriving then there is absolutely no need to measure times like this.

Just let him eat when he's hungry and play when he's awake and sleep when he's tired.

He has been struggling with silent reflux so I think the 3hr feeds have been making it worse as he seems to get tummy ache so I’m hoping the 4hr feeds might help. He wakes usually only once for a feed around 3am so not sleeping through yet. Although he also went through a phase of waking up at midnight just for a comfort 😩 i only tried it yday as he fell asleep at the time when he was due his 3hr feed so il have to try it and see how I go.

You’d usually go little and often with reflux, not big feeds less frequently which would be contrary to all the usual advice. However, you’d be best seeing the GP and/or HV. There are lots of things you could try- milk thickeners like carobel, anti reflux formula that contains the milk thickener already, anti acids like omeprazole or gaviscon but discuss with a medical professional first, and I think from memory omeprazole if you go down that route, is on prescription.

I'd echo Gina Ford Contented Baby. You sound like a mum and a baby who would really like it.
