Mastitis?

Hi everyone.

Since Saturday I've been basically feeling crap - feeling sick, headachy, really heavy arms and legs and a bit dizzy. Also struggling to get warm at times. When it started it crossed my mind that it could be mastitis. However, my breasts are not painful - they just feel a little achy.

Do you always get painful breasts with mastitis? I'm feeling really teary today and finding it really difficult being up 2/3 times a night feeding 10 week old
ds and also coping with a 3 and 5 year olds
. Because my breasts are not sore I feel it's probably a virus and don't want to waste the gps time (would have to fight for an emergency appointment to be seen before the end of the week). If it is the beginnings of mastitis I'd like to get it seen to asap.

Anyway just wondered what others experience of this was. Thanks

do your boobs or under your arms feel hard?

If not and you have no pain I would say its probably a virus, however having had mastitis myself I think i would go and check at the docs anyway... its awful if it isnt treated...

Lots of rest and fluids. Massage your breasts.

Wishing you better!

Although not able to give an expert medical diagnosis, I agree that you ought to see your GP if you don't start to feel better. And keep a close eye on how your breasts feel.

I had mastitis with both my sons, and with my second son my GP let me keep a supply of antibiotics in my house "on shelf", so at the first signs of mastitis I was able to start treatment straight away.

I produced alot of milk (donated loads to a premature baby unit, but that's another story) and kept getting recurring mastitis, so the fact that I could take antibiotics when I needed to helped alot.

I hope you are feeling better soon. It's hard when you're feeling rotten and can't get the rest you need.

Best of luck.
