Help! I seem to have been prescribed something that is affecting ds2 and I am worried.

I had a hideous migraine over the weekend along with vomiting, temperature etc. Yesterday morning I was prescribed Naratriptan (Naramig) after the doctor advised me it was safe for 13wo ds2 who is fully b/fed. Since 9pm last night (11 hours after I took the pill) he has had four major pukes and is pretty unsettled. I have been able to feed him tiny bits of milk this morning which he is keeping down but I am concerned that the medication has affected him in some way.

A bit of googling actually tells me that I should not b/feed for 24 hours after taking the pill. Am now confused and concerned. I don't have a breast pump so don't have any reserves in the freezer.

Are you sure you didn't have a bug rather than a migraine which he now has?

I had the classic migraine symptoms and both NHS Direct and GP diagnosed a migraine. The main thing was feeling like I was being kicked in the head whenever I moved, the vomiting was secondary.

Unlikely to be linked to that pill, beansprout - there's not a lot of evidence on naratriptan
toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT but no suggestion it's harmful.

Thanks Tiktok. Have just spoken to another doc who says the manufacturer advises no feeding for 24 hours. I was not told this, in fact, I was told that the medication did not enter the milk. Am very annoyed with them but reassured by your link T, thanks.

Following another two phone calls with the GP, we have established that ds2 would appear to be the first baby in the known universe to have an adverse reaction to this drug and this is going to be reported to the relevant authorities. In the mean time the advice is per any other vomiting baby. They can't tell me how long the drug should take to work through our systems or if he is likely to have any other side effects but it has been 24 hours now, so we should be well on our way.
