Sterilising bottles - dishwasher?

I've just bought a posh steriliser, but my Mum is convinced that a dishwasher does the job. Am I making extra work for myself?

yes you are

no-one in the US has a steriliser, they all use the dishwasher and think we are seven shades of mad.

Coolmama · 21/04/2008 15:08

I only used the steriliser until DS was on the floor with the dog - he was about 3 months old when the puppy first licked hs bottle - seemed a bit pointless after that and the dishwasher does make life a million times easier

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 21/04/2008 15:09

I would sterilise in my dishwasher except my dishwasher is rather old and slightly manky. Perfectly fine for the rest of the family but precious DS's bottles are sterilised seperately.

I used the dishwasher to sterilse DD's bottles but that was 8 years ago and it was brand new

trace2 · 21/04/2008 15:10

dd 10 m was wondering weather we stop using it

MrsBadger · 21/04/2008 15:10

MrsBadger · 21/04/2008 15:11

here is some info

I stopped sterilising after every use after about 3mths with both of mine. We don't have a dishwasher anymore (did when DS1 was a baby- just used that from 3mths instead). I do still do a batch every couple of weeks, where I'll put all the bottles etc... into sterilise, 'rejuvenate' the lot..
I do wash everything very thoroughly after each use, it just gets to a point where you wonder why on earth you bother if your baby is sucking his grubby hands, toys etc....

I never bought one of these daft contraptions that cost a fortune- just used either boiling water on the stove, or sterilising tablets dropped in x amount of water. Easy peezy.

sophiewd · 21/04/2008 16:04

Our steriliser is firmly staying in the attic this time round and all bottles will be going in the diswhasher

RTKangaMummy · 21/04/2008 16:43

Trace you have set yourself free

Enjoy the extra time playing with baby or MNetting that you used to spend sterilizing

trace2 · 21/04/2008 16:53

ChasingButterflies · 21/04/2008 17:44

RTKangaMummy · 21/04/2008 17:48

RTKangaMummy I was so pleased to see your thread a few weeks ago when I started bottle feeding DD. I have a great system in place (no dishwasher here!) and am so glad I don't bother.

I actually saw a dog hair IN her bottle of milk tonight I am scrupulously clean when I wash and make up the bottles but I guess real life just gets in the way sometimes. And yes she did finish the bottle

RTKangaMummy · 21/04/2008 19:13

The hair may have not got thru the hole of the bottle
