1 year old potentially has chicken pox. Wife pregnant with baby #2

Hi all,

Our 1 year old son had come out in a rash over his back and chest. I took him to weekend GP this morning who said she thinks it’s a rash as a result
of a virus working on him as she found his tonsils were a bit red when doing her checks.

My wife is currently pregnant with Baby Number 2 and is around 12 weeks. It’s just come to our attention tonight that a little boy whose party we were at last Sunday now has chickenpox so we’re thinking the rash could be that.

Just wondering what we would do in this case as my wife is pregnant? I should say aswell she has never had chickenpox before even as a child. Some photos of the rash are attached.

Thanks.

Nothing we can help with here then

It was to get folks opinions on here of what the rash could be as I found the doctor quite dismissive. Forget I asked now. Abrupt, rude folk like you are the problem with this forum

Well it doesn't really seem to matter what the rash is, does it? Nearly all small children catch chicken pox and if your wife doesn't have immunity, she will almost certainly catch it too, and when she does, there's a good chance she'll die. If it doesn't happen now, it will happen soon. If she's not willing to vaccinate I'd suggest you get some good life insurance in place.

Why reply this? It’s not helpful in the slightest. You are an absolute arse if the truth be told. I’ve come on here looking for some advice so as what to do. Some people have provided that in a supportive manner. You on the other hand are on your high horse being condescending and horrible. What have I done to offend you so you reply in this horrible way?

I'm not being horrible, it's the truth. If your wife is choosing to run the risk of serious illness and death and you're OK with that then no-one here can help you.

She is not likely to die from chickenpox so don't be ridiculous. It can be worse in adults but not to the extent that death is expected.

Adults are 25x more likely to die of chicken pox than children. Complications are much more likely in pregnant women.

meiehwa · 21/09/2024 21:00

@dementedpixie 75% of deaths from chicken pox are in adults. It really is that serious.

It would have been helpful context to know that your DW is an anti-vaxxer. You wouldn’t have had people recommending she gets vaccinated when she’s not pregnant anymore.

What’s her data source for believing that vaccinations cause strokes in people in their 40s? Related to any specific vaccines? And are you aiming to not vaccinate your children?

Yes but how many adults actually die?
From googling the average is around 20 deaths for all ages per year.

meiehwa · 21/09/2024 21:37

@dementedpixie in the us last year 150 people died from chicken pox (nih)

My figures were from the UK; should have specified

That’s pretty bad considering they vaccinate for it there.
I suspect it’s (older) adults who weren’t given the jab.

Its really not

But if your wife does not have vaccines and you have already seen the doctor

I just dont see the point in the thread

If 10 people said it looked like chicken pox it still might not be

If 10 people said it didnt look like it, it could still be chicken pox

So whats the point of the thread?

In afew days or even by now, you will more than likely know if it is or isnt

But regardless your wife has come into contact with CP so she still runs the high risk of catching it, either way
