Nutramigen LGG for CMPA-symptoms returned :(

Hi all,
Looking for some advice. Ds (7m) has been getting awful eczema flare ups since he was around 6 weeks. He’s been FF since birth.
He’s been prescribed hydrocortisone numerous times but whenever the course is finished, it reappears. I only use hydromol on his skin as well as in the bath as advised by the GP.

He also started having explosive, mucousy watery poos. At his last GP visit almost 2 weeks ago, he was suspected to have CMPA and prescribed Nutramigen LLG with a follow up appointment in 2 weeks from now. Also only been giving him dairy free foods when weaning. His symptoms seemed to improve drastically (eczema and rash disappeared, stools no longer runny, however they turned green) but he has been vomiting often after feeds which he rarely did before.

This morning he’s woken up with an awful eczema flare up and since has had an explosive, mucuosy nappy 😞 Has anyone else experienced this? The Gp had mentioned that if he still had his symptoms after the Nutramigen trial that it most likely wasn’t cmpa but I’m wondering if he needs Neocate instead?

Any advice appreciated!

At 7m it's likely he has an allergy to one of the food he's had when weaning, if he hasn't reacted to the formula so far. Often CMPA babies are allergic to eggs, could it be that?

Nutrimagen contains soya which many CMPA babies are also allergic to. Neocate is soya free and could be worth a try.

I was brought up on soya milk due to being misdiagnosed with a dairy allergy as a child. Once I reintroduced dairy and stopped soya my eczema almost cleared up over night.

You could also look at Nanny care which is goats milk formula. Some babies who can't tolerate dairy can tolerate goats' milk.

@BurbageBrook thanks for your reply 😊 Yesterday he didn’t eat much at all except a few spoonfuls of avocado/sweet potato purée and only wanted his formula.

Avocado! This can be a culprit. It's not an allergy as such. My DD at this age puked spectacularly after avocado on 3 occasions. Some babies' tummies can't handle the latex content or something like that.

My DD is 7 now and loves avocado and eats it no problem but I stopped giving it to her for a year or two.

The same happened to us and he needed Neocate.

It is not unusual for the Nutramigen to help at first but then they start reacting to that too. The milk is broken down but still there.

Join the CMPA group on Facebook as they can help advise on that and other potential allergies too.

I would definitely push to try Neocate if you can but it's not always easy to get them to agree.

@GoneIsAnotherSummersDay thanks for the advice 😊 Hopefully the GP will prescribe the neocate if it continues.
Regarding the avocado, he’s been having it almost every day but the flare up only happened this morning 😩

Neocate formula was a life changer for us, we had been through the same as you and it was like a magic wand with all the symptoms and eczema gone within a couple of weeks.

GP did try us on nutramigen for a while but he was also intolerant of soya for a while. Did the milk ladder guided by the paeds at local hospital and happily able to have all foods now.
