Moving to combi feeding from EBF

Hello

6 month old baby due to start nursery in two weeks and I want him to have formula at nursery 9-4 and breast feed at home.

Bought 4 different types of cups to try him with in the hope to drop a feed for a couple of days and then drop another and so on….

However, after two days I can only get him to take 1 oz of formula! He seems to have caught on to the sucking needed for the weighted straw cup and seems to prefer that cup over a sippy cup.

How do I get him to take more formula each time? How many oz should I expect him to have? The formula box says 7oz but this seems a lot?

FYI He has started puree veggies food and has a few spoonfuls at lunch and dinner.

any help or guidance would be much appreciated :)

Have you tried a bottle?

You have no idea how much he feeds on the boob, it might be all he wants.

At 6 months, a bottle might work better. I combi fed from birth and didn’t even attempt cups or sippy cups until 9 months and even then it was a very slow process.

@boulevardofbrokendreamss @DifficultBloodyWoman I’ve been recommended not to introduce bottles after 6 months to only have to get him off them again in a couple of months 🤔

I can absolutely understand that. It would definitely be easier if he moved straight to a cup. But if he isn’t developmentally ready, and there are reasons he might not be, you won’t have much choice.

What is more important to you - avoiding transitioning away bottles or being able to formula feed at nursery?
