Third breastfed baby sleeps a lot and I’m not used to it! Normal?

So I had my third baby 8 days a go via c section and breastfeeding has been going well. She weighed 6lbs 9oz at birth and on day 5 had lost 8% of her birthweight and weighed 6lbs 1oz. Weighed again yesterday and she’s now 6lbs 8oz so is regaining her weight back.

Anyway, my other two babies were also breastfed and I swear all I ever did in the early days/weeks was sit and feed, feed and feed some more. Well this little girl is actually VERY easy to put down for an hour or two at times and seems quite content. I only worry about supply really and if this will affect it as I’ve honestly never experienced a sleepy baby.

Last night if I hadn’t woken her twice for milk during the night I’m not entirely sure she would have woken herself or not? She has plenty wet and dirty nappies and has her alert moments. In fact when she was awake this morning she fed constantly for 2 hours. She will also feed a lot early evening time too. Maybe I should just enjoy it? But it’s so easy to worry when it’s the complete opposite to what you’ve experienced before.

Was she born much earlier than your other children? I had this experience, first baby 4 days overdue, bright, alert, fed constantly. Second baby, planned c section at 39 weeks - much much sleepier!. Anecdotally have talked to a few people who have had similar. If lots of wet/ dirty nappies and gaining weight all seems fine.

I took my second born to the doctor as I was worried she slept too much, he laughed at me!

My eldest work every 90 minutes for a feed and was a nightmare sleeper.

My second slept through the night from 6 weeks and before that I was often waking the to feed because I felt uncomfortable!

As long as weight gain is ok then I wouldn’t worry and just enjoy the extra sleep!

My eldest was close to 42 weeks and my second was 39+4 and she was 39 weeks so somewhat earlier compared to my second but way earlier than my 1st. She was measuring almost a week behind at my 20 week scan though and if going by my own dates from ovulation she was born at 38+2.

My other two are boys and that’s the only reason difference I can think of. But I am stumped honestly, I’m not used to it. She’s been asleep in her moses basket for 1.5 hours whilst I ate lunch and tidied. Before that she was at soft play in her car seat for an hour asleep, only woke to do a poo and after changing her she had a feed. The only thing I hate is my boobs do feel relatively full all the time.

She definitely has at least 8-12 decent feeds a day though and like I say lots of poops and wees. It’s been 2 days since she was last weighed and she was 1oz off her birth weight which I’m assuming she will have put back on now hopefully. My sister in law has some baby scales and I’m tempted to weigh her again for peace of mind because honestly I’m so not used to this! 😅😅😅

Sounds very much like my older two!! They were terrible sleepers, had to co sleep from a very young age, would only nap being held and with a boob in their mouth. Right up until they were 18+ months old. 🥴

How is she today @Lefmry?

Yeah she’s still great and still very, very sleepy. She has at least 2 awake and very alert periods a day though where she will on and off cluster feed. I’m not too worried anymore as she does definitely get her feeds in, is gaining weight and has plenty of wet and dirty nappies each day.

I think my problem is, after two babies that were quite difficult, my eldest more so, I’m just not used to what I assume people class as an easy baby! 😅 I’m aware it could all change though and I should probably just quit worrying and enjoy it.

Today she slept about an hour before we headed to my grandparents, slept the whole 45 minute car journey and then basically slept the 2 hours we were there! Only after a nappy change did she wake and have feeds from both boobs! 🥴

I didn’t weigh her in the end but I’m thinking of weighing her tomorrow just for some peace of mind. I think once I know she’s some above her birth weigh I’ll feel better.

Just an update! I weighed her today and in 3 days she’s put on 2.5 ounces! Phew!

That's such good news, not as though it ever sounded like there was a problem though Wink
