Nutrimigen advice

Hi,

Our LO had been prescribed Nutrimigen formula. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice, as I'm worried we're not making the bottles right.

  1. Can we use the TT prep machine? If so, how?
  2. When pre making formula, we currently boil the kettle, leave the water to cool, add formula, then stick in the fridge. When we need it, we pop bottle into a tub of hot water to take off the cool edge. Is this the right way to prep pre made bottles?
  3. Can we use the rapid cool bottle? If so, how?
  4. When making fresh bottles, we boil kettle, leave to cook to room temp add formula then feed. Is this ok?

It's really distressing as LO is really difficult to settle and we don't get much notice of when the next feed is due. We've read the tin, but I'd just really prefer someone to give me their advice from their own experience.

Any help is appreciated, I just want LO to feel better.

We used to put the boiling water in the nuby rapid cool to get it to drinking temperature then pour into the bottle and add the formula. Same with the perfect prep we'd run it without formula and add that once the water was all done.

Do you use something like the Nuba RapidCool?

Hdp24 · 14/09/2024 19:56

So, we've got the nuby rapid cool, need to learn how to sterilise it properly.

His formula has been changed to nutrimigen puramino.
It does say on the tin, boil kettle let it cool for 30mins then add water.

I've seen people say you need to add formula to hot water to kill bacteria then others say if you add formula to hot water it kills the components in it to make baby better. So many conflicting advices out there.

Never realised having a baby would be this blooming difficult to navigate!

The instructions are different for the formula that you're currently giving.

Ordinarily, you'd add a "hot shot" to the powder to kill any bacteria. So I'm some ways what you're reading is correct for most formula milk, just not the one you're making up.

I'd follow the instructions on the carton and ignore the advice for other formulas Flowers

Thank you 🙏🏻

How would you use the rapid cool with this formula? And do you think the prep machine would be of any use for it too?

No that’s not okay! It needs to be above 70 degrees to kill any bacteria in the milk powder

That would be the advice for most formulas but not this one.

Please don't give advice if you aren't aware of the difference, it can be dangerous.

OP, please follow the guidelines on the carton, it very important. This formula has to be prepared differently.

If you are unsure, please give their helpline a call, talk to your HV or the Paediatric Dietician, assuming you're lucky enough to have seen one yet.

This isn't true.

Using hot water kills off some of the essential proteins in the formula. It has to be made with milk that is room temp only. I know it feels weird, took us a while to get used to but that's how it is.

We would boil the kettle in the morning, fill the bottles with water, let them cool, then add the formula when needed.

MissEloiseBridgerton · 15/09/2024 08:34

The puramino formula doesn't need to be made in hot water to kill the bacteria.

You need to boil the kettle, then let it cool to room temp, and add the formula to that water in a bottle.

For the rapid cool, you could add the water to it and let it do it's thing, then add the water to formula. Although I would check it's actually room temp water.

Your perfect prep you could maybe just do the hot shot and the water, then add the formula afterwards but again, you'd need to check if the water was room temp.

If you use too hot water on Puramino, it kills the amino acids which you need.
