WHO and research when it comes to weaning within this country.

Someone I know told me (they work with informing parents on parenting things) that there is no research to show that babies should be weaned exclusively at 6mths. WHO give the guidelines and the UK just adopt the same thought, which is why HVs say you can wean from 17wks.

This has thoroughly confused me, does anyone know what she might mean?? Wish I had the chance to ask more about this as it had me curious.

the WHO sets guidelines. The guidelines are drawn from research done in many many countries, developed and developing countries.

yes, one often mentioned one comes from Honduras, one less often mentioned one comes from the USA, for example.

will try to find a link

It really puts me in rant mode when the words WHO, weaning and 3rd world are put in the same sentence. It is farking rubbish.

VS, is that the netmum's post I mentioned? Explains it brilliantly. I always feel exasperated when people say "well this is how we did it x years ago when my LO was a baby" because scientific research finds new things that changes what we know. We used to paint cots with lead paint FGS!
