I'm hoping you lovely mumsnetters might be able to help!

I am bfing my 4wo and after horrendous cracked and bleeding nipples it's now thankfully feeling painfree. However my LO seems to suffer really badly with wind and after trying infacol, colosinth crystals and gripe water nothing seems to help. Usually after 5-10 mins into a feed he starts to thrash around and I take him off to try and wind him which is usually unsuccessful no matter what positions I try. The end result is often a projectile vomit up to 30mins after feeding. He was 6lb 2 at birth and now 8lb so putting on weight well, but I'm really not sure what else to try to help with the wind/vomit.

Strangely he's never been sick during the night although grunts and groans loudly as if trying to fill his nappy, but routinely projectile vomits mid morning. I wondered if this had anything to do with my milk being faster in the morning and maybe he's gulping??

any advice??

Your milk supply is normally better in the evening so that's unlikely. It sounds like he could have reflux. Have you taken him to the doctors?

Have you tried sitting him on your lap against your body to wind him - not jiggling just sitting very still supporting his head so his spine is entirely straight.

In any case these problems do tend to go with age (I know that's of little comfort now) but if he is gaining weight and generally healthy, you can be reassured he's not actually suffering - being sick is unpleasant (more so for you than for him) but not harmful at this age. Some babies are just more sicky than others.

thanks wmmc. I wondered about reflux but read that if a baby has it the projectile vomiting would normally happen after every feed, whereas with my little one it's probably happening 2-3 times a day. Will try sitting still upright - thanks!

I was also going to suggest reflux. My ds had silent reflux (he swallowed the "vomit" back down so wasn't actually sick) and made the most horrendous grunting noises through the night. If he seems very uncomfortable or in pain whilst feeding you could try infant gaviscon (you might be able to get it over the counter? we had it on prescription) and see if there's any improvement. Also keeping him upright as much as possible will help - you could try feeding in the rubgy ball position with your baby propped up so that he is in a sitting position (you might need lots of cushions) and propping up the head of his cot on books so that he is sleeping with his head higher than his feet.

Although, like WMMC said, some babies do juts seem to be sicky...

Doesn't sound like wind to me. I've read that BF babies don't suffer from wind problems as much as those fed on formula.

4 weeks of painful nipples? Ouch, poor you! I had those but was told by my midwife that it was due to incorrect positioning. Once I had the position sorted, feeding was just so lovely and pain free.

Re the vomiting, have you mentioned it to your midwife or HV?
