this is completely normal! possibly cluster feeding or a growth spurt. it'll pass, enjoy those moments before they grow up. sit down with snacks and put your fav show on and chill, stay hydrated.

don't even doubt your body's magic ways of producing for your baby too, you are doing and giving enough. newborns tend to cluster feeding a lot at this stage and start going through a fussy stage where they won't settle and will want mummy for comfort.

if you introduce formula this early it could halter milk production. trust your body and self. are you eating enough?

Thank you :) I have used formula very rarely if she is at her grandmas for a little while, but now I plan to just breastfeed until end of October x
I must admit I do sometimes forget to eat!!! But today and yesterday have eaten great x

They do go through mega hungry growth spurts and development phases at this point but if she's producing her usual amount of wet and dirty nappies that's a good indication she's feeding well

Well done you! Six weeks is a great achievement.

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 28/08/2024 21:19

Oh this stage feels so uncertain but yes, it's totally normal. As others said, rest up and eat and drink lots.

handsoap · 28/08/2024 21:19

that's completely okay! aslong as you are still breastfeeding majority of the time. i introduced formula with my second little boy when he was 8 weeks old and i couldn't be bothered with it after a week of trying (combo fed, just one bottle in the evening) and just breastfed him again haha. 5 months going strong! i plan until whenever he/i want to stop.

i bf my first until he was 18 months. x

This is totally normal. By feeding more, baby is preparing more milk to come so there is more milk for growth and as they get bigger.

make sure you drink loads of water and eat well and get a good box set for the times you’re stuck on the sofa!

Thank you very much !! It's difficult but I also enjoy it so much :)
Yes still has plenty of wet and dirty nappies, no sunken fontanelle to indicate any dehydration. She has her six week health visitor appointment tomorrow x

Out of interest, why until 3 months? Especially if you enjoy it?

TheBeesKnee · 28/08/2024 21:22

You're in the trenches but it's normal! It's actually easier when they get bigger, it sounds like you're planning to stop around the time I really started appreciating/enjoying feeding.

I love this! I also can't b bothered with the formula it's so much easier to whack the boob out and im habitually lazy so it works well lol !
I breastfed my first daughter for five weeks and she is now nearly 13, ever so tall, glowing and healthy ! Well done for your hard work :) x

Good question! It's a bit selfish really :( but I am going away for work end of October for three days and end of November for three days too!, I just worry it will be hassle to express and that my milk may dry up in that time! X

Thank you , yesss tbh I don't really want to stop :( but as mentioned I'm going away for three days and worry my milk will dry up , I have plans that will mean I won't be able to express regularly for one of the days x

This can be normal but i would also reach out to an in person support/drop in clinic to check baby is gaining weight. I thought this was normal and it turned out my baby wasn't transferring milk properly. Enjoy the cuddles and congratulations!

Awhhh you're at work so soon?! That's crazy. I don't think I was functional at that point tbh! Hats off to ya.

Temporaryname158 · 29/08/2024 07:29

If you want to you’ll be able to carry on breast feeding but would need to express milk to leave for her, and pump whilst away but it is doable if you want to carry on (one day of less expressing won’t stop you breastfeeding if you did want to carry on. Enjoy it, I’m sad it’s over for me!

Yes I thought that too?
Three months is such a short time for good nutritious food-
No formula can replicate breast milk - No matter what manufacturers say.

@imverynosey Sounds like you are doing just fine.
