Giving up breastfeeding cold turkey

For reasons I'd prefer not to go into, I have had to give up breastfeeding cold turkey. The gradual approach is definitely not an option. Just looking for some advice from others who've been in this situation - what did you do to run your supply down and avoid discomfort and mastitis? Should I pump just to take the edge off any discomfort, or should I be pumping a certain number of times a day then reducing it gradually? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I had to do this too at 10 months. For the first few days I pumped at the times of feeds and got 1-3 Oz a time. That was ok so I then pumped at the times of the feeds just until they were soft. Then I had a couple of days of expressing only when engorged. I kept a muslin with me overnight and hand expressed when required. I think after 10 days I barely needed to express.
As I couldn't gradually reduce feeding I used a manual pump to mimic this. My baby was home with dad whilst I was in hospital for the first 2-3 days which is I think helped.

Thank you so much, this is really helpful Smile
