DS vomiting hours after feeding

My DS is 15 weeks old and is constantly vomiting, it can be 3 or 4 hours after his feed. There is quite a lot of vomit and it stinks, he gets through 4 or 5 outfits per day.

He is formula fed. Is this reflux or could it be something else? He isn’t gaining much weight but gp reluctant to offer anything until he drops 2 centiles (he’s currently just below the 2nd). I thought reflux initially but thought he would only be vomiting just after feeds?

My first born had reflux but wasn't diagnosed until six months old as despite vomiting ALL an entire feed every time, she managed to gain weight. In fact she reached the 97th percentile 😂 my breast milk adjusted to be on tap and do 45 minute feeds. It was only when the GP surgery decided to discuss my concerns at a weekly meeting that they prescribed her Gaviscon. It was a miracle and she slept without coughing/gurgling strange noises for 6 hours non stop. So go with your gut instincts and keep going to the GP until you get a solution. X

Possibly needs checked out for pyloric stenosis

nocoolnamesleft · 08/08/2024 22:04

Pyloric stenosis is classically projectile (hitting the wall) vomiting immediately after a feed, then ravenously hungry again, and usually presents younger. Honestly sounds more likely to be reflux.

Reflux. All my DC have had it and it can be hours after a feed before the sick comes. The longer it’s been down, the worse it smells!

We’re using gaviscon but it hasn’t made much difference. I actually went back to the gp last week, he prescribed omeprazole but actually called back later to say instead he would just give me a milk thickener as apparently we should have been given that before the gaviscon (original gp gave gaviscon straightaway because DS is quite a low weight anyway and was refusing bottles all the time). I find it very frustrating getting any doctor to listen!

Dairy intolerance? My son was like this and no one paid any attention because he was putting on weight. Eventually he was diagnosed with dairy intolerance after I pushed for a referral to the paediatrician.

@mrsed1987 i am wondering if it is this because he has awful eczema, but doctors seem to dismiss it as he doesn’t have bad nappies.

Ds had this and it turned out to be cows milk protein allergy. The key similarity to your baby is the fact that there would be quite a delay between feeding and throwing up. Worth looking at a dairy free formula. I used soy formula without any issues, but doctors always seem reluctant to recommend this. Anyway this was way back in the dark ages, so there are probably more options out there now.
