Toddler illness and breastfeeding

Hi everyone. My little girl (14 months) has a virus at the moment which seems to be affecting her appetite for solid food. She’s hardly eaten more than a few mouthfuls of any meal since Monday. We saw a doctor yesterday who said that this was normal behaviour for an unwell toddler and not to be concerned, particularly as she seems to be breastfeeding slightly more often than usual. My question is, will my milk supply adjust to her increased demand in the short-term? I recently returned to work, so can be away from my daughter for up to ten or eleven hours some days and before her illness, I had started to feel as though my milk supply was reducing (softer breasts even on workdays and the return of my period). Although we are offering them regularly, she isn’t great at drinking other fluids so I am concerned that if she isn’t getting enough milk, she might be dehydrated. Thanks for your advice!

Yes supply will increase and then have to decrease again.

Both of mine have survived bouts of illness on BM alone. Your supply will be very well established by now and you'll be fine, if a bit tired. Make sure you eat plenty, drink plenty of fluids and take a daily supplement.

Hope she's feeling better soon Flowers

Thanks so much, both. After just over a week her appetite has come back bigger than before, such a relief!

So glad she's feeling better. Sporty, forgot to mention they might have a bounce back and catch up with calories Grin
