Baby chokes after aptamil bottle feed

We have 13 weeks newborn. She is bottle fed. In her first 1 or so month, she was bottle fed Aptamil bottle (non-powder/liquid). The doctors diagnosed her having silent reflux and it was extremely hard for her to feed. Based on the doctor's advice, we switched to Aptamil Anti Reflux formula (which is thicker) then she got constipation so the doctor instructed us that we use lactlose and we did. Since then, and until today, we have been using anti reflux formula with lactlose per the dr's advice to fight the constipation. She doesn't have reflux any more.

To try and move her off the lactlose, we tried giving her back Aptamil liquid form, and after finishing her feed, every 30 to 60 minutes or so, she'd choke and we need to help her.

We could keep her on the anti reflux, and on the lactlose. But we aren't very comfortable with the idea of her being on the lactlose for too long. We read that there isn't long term effect using it. But it is still worrying us.

What could be the cause of this new behaviour? What's advisable for us now to do? Have anyone over here had this type of situation?

It sounds like she hasn't grown out of her reflux yet, just that the anti reflux formula is successfully managing her reflux.

Do you mean she's being sick? What is she choking on if she's finished feeding?

What I am assuming (I could be wrong, it is hard to tell) that there is some reflux coming up her mouth, and on the way up, she is choking on it. Does this make any sense?

Should you not be sticking to the combination that works for your child and is controlling her reflux?

She needs the anti reflux formula. If the doctor says the lactlose is fine then it’s fine. You’ll probably find the issue resolved itself by around 6 months old anyway, as they often outgrow the reflux, they start solids and drink less milk and you can try to manage constipation through diet. So it really isn’t long in the greater scheme of things.

Sounds like she still has reflux then. Has she ever had medication for it e.g. infant gaviscon? Or a thickener for the normal milk e.g. carobel?

Yes, we did. As I was saying above, keeping her on the anti reflux comes paired with giving her the lactulose (laxative) which is not preferrable or at least as we heard from the doctor. He suggests that being on the lactulose means that she can get her bowl movements affected by it long term (even tho I read the opposite online)

Great question! Yes, she was on medication for it actually. But that didn't help at all. We ended up leaving the medication and switching to the Aptamil Anti Reflux (which has a thickening agent).
