So many poos! EBF

For the past few days, my DD (4 months old) has suddenly seemed to poo a lot more. Example - woke up at 6 this morning, has done 4 poos since. She is EBF. I think yesterday about 7/8 poos - is this normal? If it carries on much more, I thought I might check with the health visitor since I'd worry about her becoming dehydrated Sad But thought I'd get opinions on here in case this is totally normal.

Does not seem to be in any pain whilst pooing, not detected any signs of intolerance of anything so far...

My third DC who is now 9 was like this. Even now, I remember changing his nappy about 7-8 times in a night! 🥱 He was EBF and a big hungry baby. Health visitor told me it was very normal as breast milk is so easily absorbed that it just goes through babies really quick. It's exhausting though!

@boredwithfoodprob ah ok, that makes me feel better! She does feed a lot in fairness - I'd also read things about babies who are EBF not pooing for a week because they're so efficient at absorbing everything... not the case here! Confused

Ha ha yes now that you say that my first DC was like that - sometimes didn't poo for days! But he was a different kind of baby - much less hungry and only ate what he needed/the minimum. He's the same now, age 15 😂 I guess they're all different...

She could have a tummy bug if its a sudden change. My 3.5 month old went from 1 / 2 poos a day to suddenly doing 8 or 9 a day accompanied by lots of gas. My eldest was sent home from nursery with a tummy bug so pretty obvious they had the same thing.

I took her to the GP to be checked over after they got progressively more mucusy and a streak of blood. The GP sent us to our local paediatric a&e who were happy it was just a bug. After about a week, her poos were back to normal. So you could monitor for now and just see whether they change. Sounds grim but take photos - the first thing the drs at a&e asked me was whether i had any photos, but luckily DD did a huge poo whilst we were there so they had something to look at 🙈

Have they had any vaccines recently?

hedgehoggle · 25/07/2024 14:12

@Superscientist They had their 12 week vaccine (or 16? the last "baby" one) a week and a half ago.

It's probably on the edge of when it could impact but vaccines can upset their stomach for a little while.
About 3-4 days after my daughters 4 months vaccines she had 8 poos. Her normal was 3-4
