breastmilk only once in awhile, like when ill

I had decided to wean ds, 15 months, and fed him for the last time just over a week ago. He was only having the odd feed anyway.
Today he had diarrhea and vomited once, was cross etc. I breastfed him and now he seems better! Amazing!
So, can I do this once in awhile and will my supply keep resurrecting itself?

I doubt your supply as such will just appear from nowhere once you've completely stopped bf. It is generally quite hard to restart a supply ince stopped, not impossible, but hard.

I would think one of two things. Either, your breasts were still geared up to produced milk to a certain (reduced) extent, or the sucking was the comfort he needed when feeling poorly.

I'm very pleased it helped your ds whatever the reason!

I'm fairly sure that after 15 months of bf you would still have milk a week after the last feed. I have a friend who was away from her 18 month old for a week and carried on nursing as normal when she returned. It is quite possibe that the milk he got helped him get over his bug, not a one off cure, but it will have helped.

However, your milk supply won't linger forever, so occaisional feeding is not something you could do long term. (Hmm, having said that, I know someone who can still squirt a few drops out 12 months after she stopped, so you never know!!) Most likely though your DS will forget how to nurse and won't be able to suckle effectively after a while, so that's probably the limiting factor on how long you could do this.

I think on one feed a week you are unlikely to be able to keep up the supply for long
it does vary from person to person though
