Will bad shallow latch improve with time?

DD is 3w old today. Latch has been shallow since the start. Had TT division nearly 2 weeks ago, and have seen two lactation consultants as well as an osteopath. Despite all their help with positioning and tension, etc, we have seen no sustainable changes. Weight gain was an issue so we've been supplementing with EBM mostly (plus a little formula) since she was a week old with probably 2/3 of the total milk volume she needs - her inefficient latch means she's not able to empty the breast effectively and as much as I try and improve her latch, she just seems to have zero suction in a deeper latch and just sits there or corrects to shallow or fights her way off.

I feel so fed up. She cluster feeds for hours every day. I'm stuck in the house due to needing to express at every feed. At this point the professionals just think it'll take time and are kind of done advising. I guess my question is - is this actually likely to resolve with time? Is it worth persevering? I fed my son for 2 years and we had issues to begin with but were able to resolve them and I'm so glad I did, because the thought of having to deal with pumping or sterilising bottle admin for the next year is extremely daunting - I know it works for some but I personally find that route very difficult and limiting, and I'd really like to sort the bf, but I feel fairly hopeless about it working out this time :(

Nipple shields helped my dc2 until she was 8 weeks old and her latch improved dramatically.

Might be worth trying if you havent already.

I haven't tried them no. Was it ok when you stopped using them and did you feel that they impacted on your supply? Thank you :)

I used them with both my youngest and they were brilliant. I didn’t wean either off it until they were about 4months old. Weight gain was really good. It’s a great solution
