Cosleeping where does baby’s face go?

I’m trying cosleeping with my 6 week old. It’s just me and her in the big bed. She lies on her back, should her head turn to face me or away? I read it should face me but I would have thought that would increase suffocation risk??

we are also trying lying down feeding (desperate for some sleep over here!!). I got a scare because I fell asleep with her like that. Although she unlatched herself while I slept, she did not roll onto her back like many babies are supposed to do. I’m worried if we try this again she could get smothered by my boobs. Any advice on the lying down feeding?

Do you have your arm around her in a c-curl shape? I think it’s quite instinctive and safe to sleep this way. Six week is a really tough age with the fatigue setting in. I am still cosleeping at 11 months and it’s mi h less worrisome now she is bigger and stronger. I always used to leave baby where she was in the bed and move to the other side if I thought she didn’t have much room (risky with a Velcro baby I know).

I co-slept with mine and fed lying down (and slept through it). I had no pillows.

Mine would usually roll back onto their backs but sometimes stay on their sides. I’d lie with one arm bent under my head and the other holding the baby on its side to feed.

I second looking at the protective c curl position. Do you sleep with them in a baby sleeping bag?

Unless you are drunk or on drugs or massively overweight, then you are very, very unlikely to smother your baby. She will turn her head as she wishes, and she won't have read the book or heard the instructions that say she should sleep on her back!

I could never get the hang of falling asleep while feeding, so you are lucky to be able to this.

The vast majority of babies throughout history have co-slept and it is a relatively recent western thing to think that it is normal for babies to sleep alone.

Thank you for the replies. I sleep with my knees under her feet but no pillow for me. Instead I have my arm folded under my head
