Buying Formula

Does anyone know if there is anywhere we can buy formula in bulk, with the twins it is costing us a fortune.

We are using Aptimel.

no, afaik it isn't possible.
it is illegal to promote formula and so the price has to be the same, for everyone, everywhere regardless of how much is bought.

but am more than happy to be told otherwise because I don't know this for 100% sure

Lulumama · 07/04/2008 22:01

swap to a cheaper formula? IIRC aptimal is one of the dearest

unless you have a friend who owns a chemists, you are stuck buying it at regular prices.

used to be you could buy formula a little bit cheaper at baby clinics, but i don;t know if that happens anymore

whatever you do, don't dilute it more to make it last longer!

how old are your twins?

modsaluk · 07/04/2008 22:05

They are two weeks old, i did breastfeed them for five days but him was exhausted also have a DS who is 2 1/2 and was so tired.

When my DS was 5 months old i was returning back to work so stopped breastfeeding and he went onto formula we could buy it from clinic but they have stopped doing that now.

thisisyesterday, you are right. Formula cannot be discounted anywhere and clinics no longer supply formula. However, mothers who can claim Healthy Start vouchers can exchange them for formula in supermarkets and elsewhere .

verylittlecarrot · 08/04/2008 00:27

That reminds me...I saw formula reduced in the bargains section at Sainsburys the other day.

Contemplated saying something to the manager, but didn't.

I might if it's there next time, though. Perhaps.

So, it isn't cheaper at a wholesalers?

VLC, it might have been near the use by date?

SparklyGothKat · 08/04/2008 00:55

solo do you get the sure start healthly vouchers? They can be used for formula

SparklyGothKat · 08/04/2008 01:00

Hi-jack

VLC Hows babycarrot doing these days??

tiktok · 08/04/2008 09:06

VLC, it might have been follow-on which is not subject to the same legislation.

Solo, sell-by dates do not affect the law on this.

verylittlecarrot · 08/04/2008 13:24

No, it was hungry baby milk. I chickened out of saying anything as I would clearly have been thought of as an interfering mad loon.

SGK, babycarrot is doing great thanks! She's nearly 14 lb and eating really well. Callum is looking superb!

AitchTwoOh · 08/04/2008 13:35

i used aptamil (although amn't sure i would again, though) and i found it really expensive in sainsbos etc but bizarrely always about 40p cheaper in boots.

solo · 08/04/2008 23:56

Sparkley, I do get the vouchers, but I'm still bf ing my 15 month old, so don't buy formula. I just thought it would be cheaper at wholesale price. Anyway...live and learn eh? ;)
