how do i get 30 week DD to bf more milk during the day

Lately bf 30 week DD has been very easily distracted during daytime feeds and then waking up hungry at night. Previously she slept min 8 hours but will now only go a max of 4 hours between feeds at night.

Mentioned to HV today and advice was to give DD more solids during the day (she is only having two solid meals at the moment) and not to bf at night .

Is there a more sensible method to get her to take more milk during the day?

I've tried feeding her in a dark quiet room but this has had limited effect.

Hmmm, maybe sing to her? Or let her play with a necklace or something while feeding, to keep her interested?

you have to BF at night to stimulate prolactin
is she having a growth spurt at the moment

Peanutbear could you explain this a little more, please. I would be interested in that as well.

Both my boys did what you are describing when they were ready to start solids. Once they were having 3 solid meals a day, the sleep went back to normal. I did generally try to resist them getting back in the habit of feeding at night but did give in sometimes.Increasing the milk feeds during the day didn't seem to make any difference.

Growth spurt? I found DS wavered over his intake of milk v solids. He didn't really eat that much till I stopped night feeds, but that was when he was over a year old.

Thanks for the response. Feel reassured that its normal!

I don't think its a growth spurt as she really doesn't seem to be that into bfing at all during the day, especially if theres something more interesting to do.

She is only 9th %ile so I don't really want to start restricting her milk intake as this is supposed to be where she gets all her calories.

Not so much worried about the night feeds as they are usually relaxed, more worried that she is going long periods during the day with little milk.

Guess I'm just a bit worried that my milk supply might dry up. It also gives those around me who think I should have started her on formula by now more ammunition as, of course, theirs were all sleeping 7-7 by this age!
