5 week old - sick during night - reflux?

My 5 week old is struggling with sickness during the night. He is formula feeding, but seems to be extremely hungry in the evenings more so than the day time.

He does tend to spit up a bit after his feeds, but at night, we’ll sit up with him for around 30-40 minutes after a feed before lying him down (his moses basket is propped up one side to help). Once he’s laid down, he will go to sleep but we will then have a big episode of sickness between 1hr - 3hrs later…. It’s horrible because normally we’re asleep by this point and are woken by the noise.

It gave us a fright tonight as it was also coming out of his nose…

Can anyone give any advice or tips on how to help him? Is this caused by reflux?
he doesn’t seem to be in any pain at all…

I feel terrible everytime I lay him down but we can’t hold him up 24/7!

Not a medical professional so can’t say for sure but my lo has silent reflux. They would always without fail throw up at night a few hours after being put down but show no other symptoms of reflux. Our gp did a referral to speech and language who did a home assessment and prescribed gaviscon to be added to their milk. Since starting the gaviscon at 7weeks they have been fine with no throwing up! Lo is now 7 months old and has never spit up after a bottle or been sick in the night since! Speak to your gp and see what they recommend x

Yes could be reflux.
Reflux can also cause comfort eating as the milk soothes the discomfort whilst also causing the discomfort

Step 1 is behavioural. Limit overfeeding - have a break after a reasonable amount of milk before offering more and keeping upright after a feed
Step 2 is thicken the feeds - reflux milks, gaviscon or carobel or other thickeners you add to formula
Step 3 look at omperazole

Things to keep at the back of your mind are tongue tie and cmpa as both can cause reflux. I would probably get a tongue tie assessment from a specialist not HV/midwife/GP now and explore cmpa if it doesn't improve with the above steps

Thank you! How much formula did your baby take at 5 weeks? I’m worried I’m overfeeding, but he’s hungry and takes it so I don’t think I am.
