I think you need to be fitted, Im no expert but your bust size will change depending on what stage you are at. Pregnant, just given birth, milks come in ect ...

If you go to mothercare they will fit you properly

lionbeast · 06/04/2008 20:59

hi, disenchanted, oh i tried mothercare, i got stuck with a right numpty. im 9 months in, so i think my boobs have settled.
maybe i could try again and hope i get someone else at mothercare?

Have you seen theFigLeaves Bra Fitting Page?

They have a pretty good set of common bra fitting problems and what they mean.

My experience of buying nursing bras was that the 2 bras I bought before the birth (one at about 39 weeks, the other at 41 weeks) were both too small once my milk came in, even though they'd been fitted by people that seemed competent (one at JL, one NCT). It didn't help that I was a 32F before pregnancy, and not that many ranges cover that kind of size. So I ordered about a dozen bras from Figleaves (giving me a few sizes in a few styles) and did it myself once my milk was in and I knew where I was.

Hope everything goes well for you

ps - I'm sure there are some competent bra fitters at mothercare, but I suspect they're in the minority. If they use a tape measure they'll almost certainly get it wrong...

sparklyshoos · 06/04/2008 22:09

try www.bravissimo.com - sounds like you'll probably need the bigger cup sizes and they do some pretty ones. I had the freya rosalie floral one and it was really comfy, but didn't leave my boobs competing with my belly, they also do it in black now. (they're good at fitting if you live near one of the shops, but there aren't loads - but they are really helpful over the phone too).

Many moons ago I was a M&S bra fitter and judging by your measurements given I would say you were a 38B. However it's best you get someone to measure you as it's a bit awkward to do it yourself to keep the tape measure level or look at how the bra fits you all over. I went to John Lewis at 39 weeks but the bra they gave me ended up being 2 cup sizes too small! Also remember you may be shoving breast pads in too to mop up the milk and they'll take up space. Trolleydolly's right, you'll need a selection of sizes- if they don't fit and you haven't worn them you can always swap for another size in places like M&S or John Lewis. Get a few with the same back size and a variation on cups- say D and DD. I found that I went up to a 38 when I was pregnant but after birth I went back to a 36. M& S do a reasonable value twin pack but not very glam.

It is all about Bravissimo!!! I got such amazing nursing bras - obviously no under-wire, and yet my 34 G cups (yes, that's right) are still very perky when slung up. I thought I was a 36 C before too...they know what they're doing!!!

lionbeast · 07/04/2008 14:39

thanks, mj ill check them out too

I would recommend these and only these to buy before you have the baby.

You may think that your boobs have "settled" at 9 months, but when that milk comes in they can balloon to 3 times their size - mine did.

Bravada bras are really really comfy and stretchy, perfect for night time, easy to get open and shut (they're so stretchy you don't even have to unpop the poppers) and when your nipples are cracked, your boobs are vast and sore etc, they're just nice and soft and comfy. Get about 3.

Then, when you've had the baby and your milk's established, go to M&S or mothercare and get some pretty ones that you won't be ashamed to wap out in every baby-friendly cafe in town.

I have 7 nursing bras. And certainly for DS1 I needed that many as my boobs seemed to have no off switch.

specialmagiclady · 07/04/2008 14:49

Oh arse. Just seen the bit about 9 months into BFing. Forget what I just said... Go and get a proper fitting!

taliac · 07/04/2008 14:53

Slight hijack - anyone know of any brands of nursing bras that are actually attractive to look at?? Or (gasp) sexy?

Currently bfing a 4m old, want to continue for a while, need, I mean, NEED some nice undies.

Any help most gratefully appreciated.

lionbeast · 07/04/2008 15:14

taliac · 07/04/2008 20:43

thanks i will..

specialmagiclady · 08/04/2008 21:34

Dur, sorry!

I thought M&S had suprisingly nice nursing bra selection in 2005 when I bought mine... no wonder my tits are like socks full of sand. They've got no elasticity any more!
