CMPA - Omeprazole reaction linked

Looking to see has anyone ever experienced a link between CMPA or possible lactose intolerance and Omeprazole (Losec Mups). My baby is currently on Nutramigen due to possible cmpa. He’s been extremely unsettled since about 3 days old, itchy red rash all over his face, eyes, neck and ears and explosive nappies constantly. Doctor finally listened to me as I was 100% sure it was his milk after trying many different brands with no change. Doctor put him on Nutramigen and within 2/3 days his skin completely cleared, nappies went normal however he was still very unsettled and still vomiting quite a lot. Doctor then prescribed Omeprazole as she suspected reflux. First day giving him Omeprazole I noticed his skin immediately broke out again and his nappies again were explosive and he had pain passing gas. After doing some research I discovered that Omeprazole contains lactose. I stopped giving it and his skin immediately cleared up again. I understand that lactose intolerance in babies is extremely rare but I am just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this with their babies?

Referral has been sent to allergy clinic but still awaiting an appointment.

How long has he been in the nutramigen? It's fairly common to tolerate it for a couple of weeks but as it still contains dairy the proteins build up and then you start to see symptoms again

The lactose in medicine is medical grade which means that those with cmpa won't be affected but obviously lactose intolerance might be. Asking for an amino acid formula might help

Hi - we have experienced exactly this. After a long history with cmpa / silent reflux I accidentally forgot to give our 8 month old her recently increase dose of omeprazole on Sunday and her skin cleared and she slept through that evening (first night without needing at least one but usually three feeds). It was unbelievable. Did the same on Monday as assumed coincidence but she again had better skin and finally slept comfortably. We saw a consultant today (appointment was booked prior to this sudden and surprise improvement) and he confirmed because she’s allergy prone it likely is the omeprazole and to discontinue it. He also said losec mups doesn’t work for babies (but didn’t elaborate and I now wish I’d pressed further). Did you get any more clarity with your situation?? It’s hard to believe the thing the GP kept increasing to help her symptoms was actually contributing and making things worse. It’s only day 4 so not sure if the reflux discomfort will return.

@SWmum21 I actually made the decision to cut out the losec mups myself. My gp said to try carobel which I did but again it made no difference he was still having really bad nappies and vomiting a lot. I had an appointment with the dietician last week where she said my sons allergy is on the very severe side and that the nappies and vomiting are due to the Nutramigen as it’s just extremely hydrolysed formula so she prescribed Puramino. He’s been on it for a few days now and all the symptoms he had have gone thank goodness.
