Blood in milk, is it really alright to keep on feeding?

Last 48hrs ds has produced milky dribble with lovely (not] blobs of blood in which freaked DH and some people sat near us.

My left side had a chomp recently and it would be from that. A friend said it was ok to keep feeding, but it can't be that great to have blood added to his feed?

I guess main thing is to get it healed.

I had this with ds.

Firstly get yourself some Lansinoh if you haven't already and use it religiously after each feed

If your ds does ingest some blood it will do him no harm at all, but you may notice it come through in the nappies as undigested black stringy bits - TMI - but not a problem to your ds at all !!

If it makes you feel better - I once expressed a bottle with enough blood to turn the milk pink - my HV told me I was drinking too much Ribena and it was getting into my milk supply !!

HVs talking shite.
Now there's a first.

In similar vein, I once was convinced I had produced vanilla flavoured milk nad phoned my sister to tell her. In fact, I had accidentally bought scented rubber gloves and was wearing them when washing out breastpump.

bobsmum...tell me your HV was joking, please....

bobsmum · 04/04/2008 12:29

Tiktok - I wish! Luckily I'd found MN by then and I just sniggered to myself once she'd left.

Thank you
When I express I haven't had any blood and nothing in the nappies yet!).. more the big blobs of red seen in the occassional milky bit of dribble which when using a white muslin doesn't look too attractive!

I have the lanisoh, from the early days, must start using it religiously then

I hope your HV retired and not left to move on somewhere else bobsmum. Next time I see my HV I will test her knowledge by asking the same question and see if (a) she is reassuring in her answer and (b) to see if she moved to work where I live and put her straigh

Martha - she retired thank goodness

But, cut off one medusa head and another will grow in it's place, so I would test your HV just to be sure And cut down on the ribena!

I read somewhere once that breastmilk would be what vegetarian vampires would drink!
. Blood not a problem at all don't worry!

Martha200 · 04/04/2008 13:40

Veggie vampires would have to make sure maybe their source was a veggie too perhaps?
