Hey guys, my Baby is 7 weeks old and he’s been having a lot of issues with reflux.

He’s on goat formula, I went to the Gp and they prescribed omeprazole i tried this for I week it could see a slight improvement however he was having a lot of trapped wind and diarrhoea.
i went back and they prescribed nutramigen but they didn't tell me to continue with the omeprazole..

when trying the nutramigen baby refused to eat and it was still spitting up due to been thin ? went to the hospital and they told me to continue with this normal milk and add gaviscon.
with gaviscon didn’t see much improvement he was still spitting out however now he was having constipation…

I m desperate for help, I got some carobel for his formula (goat) and it seemed to help in some feeds, the spitting up stopped but it still looks like he’s in discomfort in his tummy , should I use carobel with his formula and omeprazole for the acid, or literally use omeprazole with the nutramigen and the carobel to thicken it ?
I went crazy not knowing if I was doing something wrong tried all the bottles imagined, search all the answers available and I he just kept making clicking sound on the bottle even with passe feeding and it was just to thin I guess

also he got his tongue tie done and his been going to a chiropractor.
If he gets trapped wind can we add dentinox colic drops to the mix ?

is my first baby and he was such a happy boy literally eat , sleep eat sleep now it’s a nightmare I haven’t sleep for 3 days.

We used carobel and omeprazole.

Carobel can make them constipated, what are his poo's like if he's had any?

We also dipped dummy into gripe when we seen she was in discomfort and it helped bring the wind down.
A warm bath, bicycle legs and legs up to tummy can help get rid of gas.

Burp very often with a reflux baby and hold up for 20 mins after a feed.

When you say "spitting up" do you mean vomiting during and after a feed? How much was/is he vomiting during/after a feed?

How is his weight gain?

I think you should speak to your midwife/health visitor/GP about the Carobel, and get some advice on whether it's necessary and if so, how it interacts with anything else you're using.

Since he’s been on gaviscon he’s poos stoped.
so he’s barely got any..
however when I gave him omeprazol he’s been doing a poo a day…

So I can use both ?
with omeprazole he’s going once a day normal poo. But only just started giving the carobel.

he's been constipated since giving him the gaviscon

I always hold up 30m after feeds

should I go back and start omeprazole to help with the acid in the stomach and try carobel for him not to bring food up ?

Being sick after Feeds and during feeds. He always stays upright 30m after feeds.

it covered me in sick and him sometimes and he’s always uncomfortable when it happens

I started carobel after seeing some mums with the same problem.. he choques on bottles even with the smallest teat even when paced feeding. He swallows a lot of air during feeds and because of that it wasn’t helping his tummy because the milk was going to quickly

Yes, this worked for us. Forget the Gaviscon.

May have afew uncomfortable days when on the carobel but stick with it.

Hope it eases for him, and you soon, it's really tough.

What is the reason for the goats milk? If it is because of a suspected dairy allergy, it isn't an appropriate substitute because about 90% of babies with cmpa also react to other mammals milks

You can give thickeners and omperazole together. We stuck with gaviscon and had to give lactulose as my daughter is allergic to the carob in carobel. To get her reflux under control she needed high dose omperazole, gaviscon and ultimately domperidone too as well as me going dairy and soya free and removing all the other allergens we came across. If nutramigen wasn't working ask about an amino acid formula such as neocate or alfamino as these are completely dairy free. They are thin so a thickener will usually be needed

I went for goat milk because I saw it can help digest more than the cows milk…
in the hospital they told me that it’s not a milk allergy because he didn’t want a rash or blood in his poo. However he did have green poo…

he’s on 3.3ml of omeprazole he was last weighed 11.24 pounds

how did you notice an allergy on carobel?

Do you still use carobel for thickening?

My daughter has multiple allergies and no blood in the poo and at the time of diagnosis didn't have a rash but she does now get rashes! Her symptoms at diagnosis were being very unhappy we only realised retrospectively that she was also having a lot of very loose stools. It took them improving to realised they were abnormal

She screamed and had a rash on her legs when we used carobel and she since has reacted to yoghurts with carob in.

You can use any thickener.

What thickener are you using ?
I know it could be CMPA but it seems like doctors don’t care ….
is she better now?
on high doses

We use gaviscon

She's nearly 4 and shows no signs of outgrowing her reflux or allergies. She is on omperazole, gaviscon and domperidone. She has to be on the top dose of omperazole (3mg/kg) for it to have an effect.
She has about 20 food allergies and the only time we have issues now is when we try to reintroduce things. She still fails with crumbs of foods she is allergic to. She has a perfectly good diet without the other foods. It's just hard for us as everything has to be made from scratch and whole ingredients very little packaged or processed foods. Even something as simple as a sausage is hard to find without her allergens in.
