have trouble winding our ds. you can hear milk sloshing about when rubbing him but can persist for ages trying to wind (ie between 3 and 4am this am) but no wind comes up? Is this noise just cos full tummy or does it mean wind in tummy under some milk?

IMO it's best to just put him down after 10 mins of trying. If he has wind it'll all collect into a big bubble when he's lying down. If it's bothering him he'll complain and when you pick him up again after 10-20 mins he'll burp nicely. Or he'll merrily sleep on (and so will you) and fart it out in his sleep!

If he doesn't burp straight away, then just accept it 10 minutes trying is w....a.....y too long, IMO!

Hearing the milk is not a sign of anything except the fact there is milk in the tum....and you knew it was there anyway

I never got the habit of burping DS2. He is 3 now. He appears to have survived.

I have heard from someone who has spent time with breastfeeding mums in parts of the developing world that they have never heard of burping babies - so maybe bf babies just don't need to be "burped"?

our ds is ff not bf, we've now decided if no burp forth-coming we'll just give up afetr a decent amout of time and not persevere for half the night as before, seems to be working!!
