Reflux worse at 6 months

Hi,
I’ve read some of the old threads but couldn’t find answers related specifically to my issue.
My baby is 6 months old now. He’s been on infant Gaviscon since around 5 weeks old. Tried omeprazole at 12 weeks but he wouldn’t take it.
The last few months his vomiting has been getting worse. I feel that the Gaviscon really worked well in the first few months-hardly brought any back up. Now he is having 8/9 oz of formula he is being sick more.
Could it be because the Gaviscon isn’t thickening it as much due to him having more oz of formula?
I really thought it would be getting better as he got older. We are going to try weaning in the next week or so.

Our reflux is also worse now. I can't work out why as it seemed to get better around 10-12 weeks. The last two months it's been horrendous again. I've been querying food allergies as my little one also has eczema. Some things I've read said that reflux should get better when they can sit up and start solids and that reflux peaks between 4-6 months as this is when they get the highest volume of milk before starting solids but this doesn't seem to be true for us sadly :( I'd be interested to know if anyone else has been through similar too

My daughter is nearly 4 and still has reflux. The biggest surprise to me with reflux was it wasn't a linear process. I felt like I had been miss sold reflux when she didn't just get bigger strong and with less reflux!

For us her reflux goes in and out of being controlled by medication. Triggers for us have been growth spurts, colds, teeth, allergies and random. How many sachets of gaviscon are you giving you might need to give 2 if you aren't already or possibly look at trying omperazole again.

My little one’s reflux got a little worse when we started solids, I do wonder if it’s the volume? He didn’t suffer before.

I however have awful reflux (also hiatus hernia and some other issues).

Mine is worse when I have a cold, and the GP said it was to do with post nasal drip - fluid dripping down the back of my throat from my sinuses.

Baby has been teething and, combined with babies led weaning, was very dribbly for a while. So he was swallowing a lot of dribble.

This coincided with the reflux, so I wonder if it is linked?

He has two sachets in every bottle. I do feel it’s to do with the consistency of the formula now. It’s just less thick.
Have you tried Carobel? I’m in two minds whether to give that a go as some people have said that worked for them.
I think the Omeprazole is still a no go. Got some in the fridge but he would just spit it out last time. Tried giving him it in a teat and it made no difference.

I thought as my son got a bit older it would improve too. I’m starting weaning next week as he’s 6 months now and I’m hoping for an improvement but I’m not so hopeful now after hearing other people’s experience.
I know it can get better by 12 months old, it just seems a long way away now and I feel so sorry for him being sick all the time.

Did you find that certain foods made it worse or triggered it? Wondering if there are some to avoid. I was hopeful weaning would be the magic cure but I’m not convinced now sadly.

My daughter is allergic to carob unfortunately so we only used gaviscon

Have you tried the dispersible tablets? It was hard to get to to take it but the benefits was worth it. I was very glad when she got on to full tablets and we just dissolved in on a spoon in a few drops of hot water and then put the beads into some fruit puree or yoghurt! Depending on the dose this might be an option as an alternative?

We’ve not tried the dispersible, just the liquid one which he would just spit out.
I may ask to try the dispersible tablets. I feel like I’m going round in circles trying everything. Nothing seems to make much difference.

My daughter needs high dose meds to have an effect. We did see an improvement until she was on 3mg/kg omperazole (top dose), as much gaviscon as I could get into her and then domperidone. She's still on this combination at nearly 4. We can tell when her omperazole dose is 2mg/kg or below as her reflux becomes unmanageable again. Unfortunately we then bump into maximum doses for her age. For example she was on the 20mg dose of omperazole by 6 months and she was 2y before it could be increased above 20mg. The domperidone was introduced at about 8 months partly because there wasn't any manoeuvrability with the omperazole dose any more.

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever find the magic solution for the reflux OP!?
