No more breast milk and toddler only falls asleep at night on boob HELP

Hi, I have a 1 and 2 month old that has been exclusively breast fed since birth. She will take her day naps in her pushchair but when it comes to night time she needs my boob to fall asleep but it looks like I have no milk coming out of my breasts. Any tips on what to do? How I can help her sleep without it. She won't take any other milk bottles or dummy and she will cry for ages if rocked. Help!!

Why do you think your milks dried up? Is she fussing on the boob.

I have squeezed my breast and nothing is coming out, I've only been feeding her once a day so I am not sure if that's the reason why

When you're supply is well established it's normal for you not to be able to get the milk out, but the baby can.

I bf my DD for 3 years and for about the last 8 months I only fed her once at bedtime and before that only twice a day, but she was definitely still getting milk because I asked her!

More than likely there is no problem

You’d have to stop sometime anyway it’s just been decided for you

I know, but I am concerned about how I will do bed time!

Tbh, it hurts so much when she sucks so I feel like there actually isn't milk and she's just sucking for comfort

My child has breastfed now for over four years.

(No I no longer announce it in public…)

I have never been able to squeeze more than a drop or two. I never got more than 50ml with an industrial pump when he was under six months and feeding happily all day long.

I spent several days squeezing tiny drops into a vial to get a breast milk ring made when he hit 1000 days.

My point is, what you see and what’s happening are entirely different things. Chill.

I got dad to do bedtime for a week and all milk was forgotten by the time I did a bed time, just snuggled to sleep.

Second time round that didn't work so I just said the milk was gone and snuggled to sleep with a few tears. It seemed more daunting change the bed time routine than it actually was!

Good luck

Ah thank you! Will try with her dad jumping in to do bed time instead maybe that'll help!

Sorry not what you asked but really recommend you take a pregnancy test as the pain/drying up of milk happened once I was pregnant with my second. Be clear with your DC 'no milk' and offer lots of cuddles instead. With mine it clicked after the first couple of nights, which was much quicker than I expected. There was lots of crying on the first night and it felt awful but I think it was overtired wanting to sleep but not quite knowing how without feeding.

yy I was going to suggest you take a PG test too, OP.

Read the book "Booby Moon" with her each day for a few days. There's some nice lines in there you can then use. It says Mummy and I used to have milk to sleep but now we cuddle instead, or when I wake up at night the milk doesn't wake up so we have some water to drink and have a little cuddle etc. It's a lovely tool to use at that age to support weaning. Mine fussed a little bit (I'm talking 20 seconds!) before falling back asleep when it came to night wakes when we used that book. Bedtime I got DH to do, and they had a bottle of milk together and read a story and had a cuddle and she just went to sleep.
