Struggling with feeding quantities!

So my little boy is 12 weeks old today and weighs about 14lb. He was 8lb 11oz at birth so has been putting weight on nicely. He has been on 5 x 7oz bottles for a few weeks but in the last 2 weeks it's been a bit of a struggle.

I'm not sure if he had the starts of a bottle aversion or a fussy phase but we're just starting to get back to normal.

I know he should be having around 35oz for his weight, which is what we're aiming for but we are lucky to get 30oz in him some days. He's having plenty of wet nappies and is happy but to me his weight seems to have plateaued.

He sleeps through the night but never seems to show he's hungry. We have been going 3 hours in the day but I think he could go longer. He gets up around 7am and goes to bed between 8.30/9pm.

I'm a bit unsure what to do. Do we stick with the 5 x 7oz in a day, or increase to 4 x 8oz (realistically nearer 9oz once the powder is added) and see if he takes more at each feed?

I've been going by the rule of 2.5oz per pound of weight but have seen a maximum of 32 in a day.

It's all so confusing and I don't know what to do for the best! I'm just so worried he's going to stop putting on weight 😔

Have you tried changing his teat size?

Have you tried changing his teat size?

We changed him up to MAM size 2 about 6 weeks ago as he kept falling asleep during feeds and he seems to have only just got used to it.

I did start him off on size 3 on a bottle last week and he started well but then started spilling milk from the corners of his mouth so switched back to the 2's.

I just don't know what to do for the best and I'm started to get quite stressed out myself about it.

Plenty of wet nappies, sleeping through and not showing signs of hunger.

I'd say you're doing pretty well!

Try again with the teat every so often, it can take a few goes, but try not to worry.

Sounds like you have a happy, healthy little one x
