BFing during pregnancy - do I need to tell dr/midwife? Did you and what reactions did you get?

I have just found out I am pregnant and am about to book an appointment with the doctor.

I'm still bfing (DS is 22 months) and I'm worried that they will hassle me about it and try to persuade me to wean DS which I'm not ready to do. (If he self-weans then fine - but I don't want to push him if he's not ready).

Did you tell your dr/midwife and what reactions did you get? What arguments can I use if they criticise my decision to carry on?

Hi mummypig - I think what's happened with your DS2 is quite common. Breastmilk often dries up completely in the second trimester (mine did), or the taste can change (not sure why), so a lot of children self-wean at about this stage. However, as you say, it won't be long until the baby comes in your case, so DS2 might feel like having another go then. I'm pretty sure that the Flowers book covers this - don't have my copy any more, but there's definitely stuff in there about children self-weaning during pregnancy.

Yes, I forcibly weaned my DS1 because my milk had stopped, and I thought he wouldn't mind - but he did mind, big time, and I wish I hadn't done it to be honest.

Oh policywonk that sounds very sad for you both . I will look around for a copy then as it sounds as it might be useful. Thanks
