CMPA

Hi

had suspicions 4 month old DS had CMPA and have managed to convince the GP to trial Aptamil Pepti 1 to see if anything improves. The worst symptoms are the eczema on face/body (a lot worse on face), very sicky after feeding, pretty much the whole bottles and very lose, mucous nappies.

We started on the Aptamil yesterday, how long will I start to see improvements? It’s his skin more than anything I’m concerned about, was prescribed Zeroderm and steroid cream for his skin, found the Zeroderm made him even more flaky and red so swapped to Cereave, applying steroid cream very sparingly as not a huge fan!

any experiences, would be grateful to hear!

Aveeno helped my DS. It took about a month for his symptoms to really improve. Sympathy, it’s horrible!

It really is horrible, it’s more the trial and error that stresses me out although appreciate there is no other way!

Hi!

well he’s developed like a prickly rash on his face which is new however the eczema is going down, less reflux, firmer nappies etc! We did got to UTC yesterday for the rash but they said to persevere which I assumed they would say.

only issue is he is drinking around 2 ounces less than usual, so doing up 5 ounce bottles now and sometimes not even finishing. Again, I assume they’ll say to persevere.

we’ve been using cereave for his skin as I think Zeroderm made him way more flaky!

Do you think he has an issue with the taste of the milk? Is he having enough based on his weight?

Don't use Aveeno or any food based creams (avoid coconut, olive oils for example) because they can trigger new allergies if applied to broken eczema skin.

Is the formula hydrolysed or completely dairy free?

We weighed him a few weeks ago and he was just under 14lbs, he’s generally a grazer and still feeds every 2 hours, on average 4-5 ounces so I think that’s ok. Definitely think it’s the taste of the milk, he was previously breastfed and on Kendamil formula and used to love both!!

Hi, formula is hydrolysed. I did enquire whether we could have a dairy free one to try however they said they were cautious about changing it too soon and to keep note on the rash. I hate the trial and error aspect of it all, it can be so cruel giving something to your baby that will hurt them but I guess there’s no other way!
