Hiya.

I'm going mad. I have been told by gp it's all viral. I have spoken to two pharmacist that says different to the gp. They say eczema or cmpa.

Symptoms.
Projectile vomiting at least 2 out of 6 feeds.
Diahhora
Hiccups at least 4 feeds a day.
Rash as per photos. Which is getting worse as days go on.
Coughing and a nasally since birth, chest is clear. I do think she had some viral thing at some point as she was coughing up some gunk.
Sneezing while feeding.
Coughing - not because she drank too much or too fast.
Wheezing when feeding.

I'm at a lost. I think cmpa. I have been prescribed some omperazole. Which I haven't started yet.

Can anyone advise me please? The gp is making me seem like I'm mad. Like I'm some bothersome mother.

Thank you

Are you breast or formula feeding? If breast, eliminate all dairy from your diet but it takes some time to see the effects. If formula feeding go back to the GP and push for hydrolysed formula.

Many more helpful users on here who will have good advice so bumping for you!

Have you spoken to your HV? I have found GP`s to be useless with this, I was back and fourth for months being told it was eczema I knew it wasn't but nothing changed until i got my HV involved, the GP finally prescribed CMP free milk and my sons symptoms disappeared within 2 weeks!! They made me feel as if I was just after free milk it was a really stressful time!

Atomickittyxx · 22/04/2024 14:27

Could also be a lactose intolerance as my friends ds had this and it affected his digestion. I really hope you get some help I know how hard it can be.

Purplerain1144 · 22/04/2024 14:33

My baby had these exact symptoms and has CMPA. The GP should at least give you some formula so you can trial it. We had to use it for 4 weeks then go back to the old formula and see if symptoms come back, which they did

Twistylemon · 22/04/2024 15:18

Thank you. I have emailed the health visitor. As I can never remember everything at this point. I always forget something. Hahahaha.

I'm glad I'm not mad and you see what I see and thinking along same lines as me. I'm just so deflated as this happened with my first kid and I just had to deal with it as no one believed me.

Wheb GPS tell you it's nothing over and over you start to question it all 😔 😟 🙁

Lactose intolerance is incredibly rare because breast milk has lactose in it. Far more likely to be cmpa.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2024 16:19

As no 1 has cmpa often does run in families so yes prob is cmpa

All the things you mention and photo all point to cmpa

I've seen a lot of it as I'm a maternity nurse and had many cmpa babies

As no 1 had I am surprised the gp didn't take your concerns seriously

Its that bad as I'm an nhs worker too and still not believed 🥹🥹
One gp started explaining to me how a viral infection was in kids. I was like hca worked in paeds for 3 years I'm fully aware how it all works thanks!

The HV did call me. But of course I couldn't pick up as lo was screaming for the 5th hour today 😭😭

Twistylemon · 22/04/2024 17:04

Also with my lo number 1 was taken seriously I never pushed it and was the worse time ever, now I member why I hated it. She grew up having constipation for 3 years and ended on movical and now only just settling with no constipation.
They didn't believe me then. And won't believe me now. Triggered isn't the word for how I feel right now!!

Unhappy, squirmy, unsettled baby. Lots of crying, not sleeping well, rumbles and wind in the tummy are all huge indicators of CMPA along with excessive vomiting, which is not the same as possetting and diarrhoea.

As Pp says if BF eliminate all dairy from your diet. This means reading every single packet of food. Many pre packed foods, even crisps, biscuits, sauces etc have milk powder traces in them. It's often recommended to cut out soya too due to similarity of protein chain formation ( start with all dairy elimination though). And see if you can resist formula top ups for a bit. The dairy takes a while to be fully out of your systems and after a couple of weeks you will know if it is this that has been responsible or something else. Fingers crossed you'll have a calmer happier baby. If you do find this is the cause see your gp and all for a referral to you local paediatric prescribing dietitian if your authority has one, or paeds dietitian who can sometimes go above what GPs can prescribe in terms of formula. They are also really helpful for when you need to free introduce/ trial dairy if relevant.

Good luck.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2024 17:20

As above if bf need to stop all dairy and will take 4/6w to get out of System

Or get neocate or sma alfamino if using formula

Twistylemon · 22/04/2024 17:26

Not BF. Completely formula feeding with some colostrum in freezer if needed. Wish I could have breast fed. But I had 4 sets of antibiotics for a wound infection for c section scar.

She's formula feeding, But yea I'm sure it is most likely cmpa I dont know that much about lactose intolerance i just remember my friends ds projectile vomiting and being unsettled and it turning out to be that.

Greyhoundmum20 · 26/07/2024 11:58

Hi @Twistylemon just wondering if this resolved for you and if it was cmpa in the end? My 9 week old has a very similar rash and we’re being told over and over again by GPs that it doesn’t look like an allergy rash. Tried pepti 1 for a few days and DS hated it so we gave up…

Twistylemon · 26/07/2024 19:45

Yes it was. We went onto aptamil pepti 1. It did settle for us. Not perfect. But it has settled.
I made a big fuss with the HV and then the drs finally listened. I also chose to speak to a Dr that was old school and had 8 kids. I refused all contact with the 3 other drs I had spoken too.

Yeah no one in their right mind would like aptamjl pepti 1. Try it. It's gross.

We did vanilla essence - make sure no alcohol in it. I initially did 1 drop every oz.
Also nesquick is another suggestion.
There's a cmpa group on Facebook too. Gave me lots of insight.

I think perhaps try again with aptamil pepti 1. Just remember it won't work straight away takes up to 6 weeks if more.

Oh and initially lots of almost force feeding. But don't do it too much or your cause bottle aversion.
