why do people seem to think its better to ff rather than frequent bf?

lots of people seem to say, babies are more content on formula. they don't look content to be they look stuffed and uncomfortable. but some seem to think this is a better or more normal way for babies to be ?

also i find they way people expect babies to be able to go x amount of hours between feeds really really odd.

Weeeel... I breastfed and when I had dd I was rather obsessive in the first few weeks about how well spaced the feeds were. Having been advised to try to have minimum 3hours between feeds.
It was all so new and I was so tired and unprepared for being a mother, that I felt the need to try and get some semblence of control.
However, relaxed and eventually went with the flow. With ds, fed whenever and wherever and he was much more contented that dd - but then maybe he would have been anyway, is difficult to tell (he didin't have colic unlike dd, which was pretty hard to deal with).

why do people start off lots of these frequent threads?

lots of people seem to say a load of bollocks, they don't seem content to me but seem to think this is better or more normal

also I find the way that some people can't go x amount of hours between pathetic threads really really odd

robin - to use an observation like that (ff= stuffed and uncomfortable) is inflammatory and, sorry, silly. There is no way of telling by looking which babies are bf and which are not, FGS.

I have seen many, many bf babies who looked 'stuffed' (my own among 'em!), though they were not (I don't think!) uncomfortable.

You've ruined a good point about expectations, there.

yurt1 · 01/04/2008 11:25

I never had a problem with frequent breastfeeding with ds1 or ds2. I did with ds3 as my milk supply was so low he needed constant feeding(not frequent, almost constant to up the supply) at the same time as I needed to care for toddler ds2 and severely autistic ds1.

I can do many thins but splitting myself in half (or thirds) isn't one of them.

What a strange OP.

unknownrebelbang · 01/04/2008 11:25

My BF babies looked stuffed!

Strange OP.

nickytwotimes · 01/04/2008 11:28

Must say my ds looked no different when ff or bf.
The reason many people think ff makes babies more content is that they are told so by their ill-informed mothers, health visitors, partners, etc, etc.

MrsBadger · 01/04/2008 11:31

For the purposes of stats I am tempted to post a pic of dd and her contemporaries from the antenatal group for people to guess which children were bf and which ff.

ANyone interested?

No, because you can't tell.

sitdownpleasegeorge · 01/04/2008 11:34

robinred.......

I'd say you were trolling but I'll respond anyway just in case any misguided person actually thinks you have a valid point.

I'm sorry but I doubt that any healthcare professional could diagnose a baby as looking "stuffed and uncomfortable" but clearly, as a mother who breastfeeds, you have greater skills.

IMHO, formula feeding, although it requires sterlising and making up bottles does allow a lot of babies to go somewhat longer between feeds and I'd guess that this is because it is harder/slower for their bodies to digest than the breast milk that nature intended them to have.

chrissnow · 01/04/2008 11:37

Yes You are being Unreasonable. And inflammatory. And rude. And judgemental. And ill informed.
And to be honest downright hurtful.

pointydog · 01/04/2008 11:39

robin, you are orally fixated.

robinrednomorenowemptybreasts · 01/04/2008 11:49

sorry don't mean to be so rude just annoys me the way, people say babies are more content blah blah.

anyway im leaving this now as these threads are just annoying me.

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 01/04/2008 11:49

thank goodness for that

pointydog · 01/04/2008 11:52

but you started the thread!

Oliveoil · 01/04/2008 11:53

now now, don't bring logic into this

SmugColditz · 01/04/2008 11:54

Maybe it's because they are tired and fed up? Maybe it's because they had no idea how demanding a demanding baby can be? What do suggest we do, take all the formula fed babies away from their mothers because they clearly aren't loved?

My babies never looked stuffed and uncomfortable, you are projecting.

Umlellala · 01/04/2008 11:59

It is a big myth that ff babies are fed every 4 hours and sleep through the night. I demand fed my little girl and she drank little and often on breast then exactly the same on the bottle - day and night!

grouphug · 01/04/2008 12:00

Robin this is the second thread I have read of yours where you are trying to start a war between bf and ff mothers. Please stop.

cheesesarnie · 01/04/2008 12:05

sandcastles · 01/04/2008 12:05

PuppyMonkey · 01/04/2008 12:49

Grouphug - it's the THIRD one robin's started since Sunday like this... Usually ending with lots of people getting annoyed and someone like Sabire quoting lots of statistics and then everyone getting even more annoyed... bit of a, dare I say agenda, or something going on with our robin???
