Reflux causing baby to struggle breathing

Hi

My baby is 5 weeks and 5 days old but was born at 35+5 weeks.

Since about two weeks old she has shown signs of reflux - Sometimes sick after feeds (varying amounts), uncomfortable when laid flat (grunting, swallowing etc.). It doesn’t seem to bother her too much, she doesn’t cry, only occasionally when laid on her back on her cot.

Over the past week on about 5 occasions she’s has had episodes where after a feed she has woke from sleeping with a glazed look, arms stretched and stopped breathing. It has never gone on long enough for her to turn blue, probably a maximum of 10 seconds. Sometimes I can hear her swallowing while it’s happening and trying to breathe then once she catches her breath shes fine, no crying or anything. She ok some occasions after it has happened has brought up a little bit of watery sick.

Its very scary when it happens but it’s usually over pretty fast but I’m so scared to sleep at night incase it happens whilst I’m asleep and I can’t help her.

I’m going to get an appointment with the GP tomorrow when they are open but I was just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this and whether you think it’s linked to reflux of something else?

Thanks

I should also mention that she is formula fed.

How did you get on at the GP's?

Hi
the GP treated her for reflux and prescribed infant Gaviscon.
So far today she’s not bought up any milk at all and seems to be a lot more comfertable lying flat. She has had a few more episodes of the strange breathing but as soon as she has burped she seems to be ok.
GP is going to review her in a week but he didn’t seem too concerned.
