Wastage with Ready made formula?

Hi all, I am breastfeeding but using ready made bottles too for convenience for night feeds. I’m transitioning to more formula but can’t get my head around using the ready to feed bottles while out and about. I use the Kendamil 250ml bottles, but you’re supposed to store them in a fridge once opened. I can’t do that while I’m out and throwing away 130mls of feed is more wasteful than I’m comfortable with. Anyone have any ideas about how they do this?

Could you decant into 2 bottles once it's opened and take a cool bag and ice pack and store the 2nd bottle in there until required.

I thought of this but the thing throwing me off is that they say it should be kept in the fridge once opened. The temp of the fridge is under 5 degrees and no cool bag or ice pack is going to keep it at that temp is it?

It should be OK for a good few hours in the cool bag if your baby hasn't drunk from the bottle.

This is from the nhs site and refers to formula you make up yourself. I imagine it would apply to premade formula cartons/bottles too

If the formula that you made up at home is stored:

  • in a fridge – use within 24 hours
  • in a cool bag with an ice pack – use within 4 hours
  • at room temperature – use within 2 hours

4 hours in a cool bag is good because it would be time for his next feed within that time. But an example is that I’m going to a wedding so the cool bag will be brought from home-by the time it gets used, it won’t be so cool anymore. As in it won’t have had ice packs put in fresh when the bottles go in. I know I’m over thinking! Just trying to be prepared.
