Four month old and breastfeeding - please help

Dd is 4 months old and has been EBF with the occasional bottle of expressed milk (hasn’t had one of these in a long time). Shes gone from feeding perfectly to pretty much outright refusing to feed during the day unless absolutely starving and even then will only take the letdown, not a supply issue as if I squeeze milk comes spraying out so the milk is there (I’ve tried compressions but she’s not interested). However, she pretty much feeds hourly overnight and is definitely getting enough milk as at night she fills 4 nappies. However due to decreased day time intake her nappies are not as heavy. Is this distraction or does it sound like she’s reverse cycling? I’m at my wits end, adamant I will not give up breastfeeding, I’ve spent too much money including private tongue tie reversal for me to even consider it. I’ve tried feeding her in a dark quiet room to no avail. Someone please help me, I’m exhausted 😂

Normal, so very very normal 😅. I have to feed mine in a quiet room, feeds often at night. I have to feed him at right point in his awake cycle, the quiet stage not when he wants to play and try roll everywhere! Otherwise he fusses, tries to babble and smile and chokes himself. He also is CMPA/ reflux with a massive diagnosis delay so he has some catching up to do with his weight. He's also now last couple days decided 3am is play time and gone split nights too 😭

Sorry, you probably don't want to hear this, but yes this sounds fairly normal but is just a phase. This too shall pass! Keep trying minimal distractions, especially just before naps when sleepier. Hopefully it won't last too long!

Sounds like it may be the 4 month sleep regression and maybe a bit of reverse cycling. I'd get her up and changed by 7am and out in the garden for 10 minutes so that she can see it's daytime and try a feed.

Not necessarily in the garden Wink

Normal. Mine got to sleeping through at 4 (years) so settle in.

We had this and I got so worried that we investigated him for silent reflux and tried medication, tried osteopathy assessment etc. It was just normal. They're becoming much more alert in the day so don't want to relax and feed, combined with the 4 month sleep regression where their sleep cycles mature it means they're disturbed all night and generally want to feed back to sleep. It's exhausting but for us there was nothing wrong, it just needed to settle. I fed either before or after a nap in the day in a quiet room but also accepted that his feeds were becoming shorter and more efficient so he didn't need 20 mins on the boob anymore.

Sorry but it does sound normal. Mine went back to normal feeding patterns a bit more about 6 months. Feeding right before naps when she was sleepy in the dark helped the most.

Update: issues have coincided with the return of Aunt Flo so think my supply dipped the past few days, she’s back to eating semi-normally again today although still easily distracted especially by big brother 😂
