When to drop night feed

Hi so my baby is formula fed and feeds roughly every 3 hours during the day taking around 4-5 oz and 1 6oz a day. Up until recently he would have a feed around 8-9pm then one at 2am then one around 5am however for the past few nights when I have fed him at 2am he has only taken a small amount and thrown it back up. I'm wondering if he isn't waking hungry and is just needing to be settled? Last night I tried the settling and he ended up sleeping until 5am had a 3oz feed and went back down for a few hours. I had to settle him multiple times but he wasn't crying just figity and went back of with his dummy. Does this sound like he doesn't need the 2am feed. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. If he was hungry surely he would take more than 3oz at the 5am feed. Thanks in advance

No baby that was genuinely hungry would be settled by a dummy and a bit of sush-patting. It sounds like you’re doing great and he’s on his way to sleeping through, lucky you!
(This is presuming a healthy baby, born at term and gaining weight nicely)

Hi I forgot to say he's healthy gaining weight and is 11 weeks old so still young which is why I was shocked but I'm sure he would let me know if he was hungry like you say. May be different tonight I'll just play it by ear. Thanks for your reply

11 weeks and a good weight is definitely fine! One of mine slept through from 8 weeks, the other was a bit fussier so needed resettling sometimes, pretty much exactly as you describe but didn’t have night feeds either beyond 3 months. He finally cracked properly sleeping through when he learned to replace his own dummy at 6.5 months.
