Spot on nipple seen HV and Dr's anyone any other idea's

I have had a white spot/lump or my nipple since my DS3 was two wks old. I've had the health visitor lift the skin with needle and squeeze out stuff , antibotic cream from Dr's and now with DS3 13 weeks old the Dr has tired to remove spot with sterile needle (again) and given me another antibiotic cream plus oral antibiotics - spot still not going and feeding from that breast feels like scissors at the nipple. I know the latch is right as loads of people have watched me feeding (plus it's third bf child ). Anyone got any ideas so far have tired hot teabags, baths and expressing. Only options left is to stop feeding and have surgery (so Dr says)- which seems vey drastic.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is it a milk blister? See here

Ouch....this is 'white spot', fairly well-known to breastfeeding counsellors. It's a plugged milk duct at the exit point, and the hole is not big enough for the milk to come through. In some cases, skin seems to grow over the hole, or maybe it was always a 'blind' hole. Thick milk builds up behind it.

Can't see what antibiotic cream would do???? Might prevent an infection when the hole is unblocked...

Can't imagine what the surgery would be - removal of that entire duct? But you would not need to stop feeding for it.

Can you bear to keep on lifting the skin in the hope it goes away?

Other option is just to feed on one side, and let that side dry up - this might be the most comfortable option.

X post - yes, also called milk blister! We have always called it 'white spot' over here.

From looking at the picture it appears to be a milk blister. Why I've got it I really don't know, never had it with the other two boys. Any suggestions apart from those in the article - which I've pretty much tired

What about my suggestion in my post to feed one-sided?

taliac · 26/03/2008 19:01

I had this, although in my case it wasn't painful, so I just squeezed it in the bath til all the white gunk was gone and since then its been fine. I doubt this is a a medically recommended course of action though!

I think one-sided fedding may be the best option. Strange question but how does this affect your supply? as my DS3 normally feeds from both sides each feed. Also how do you deal with engorement?
